Who am I?

Who have I become?
I'm not the person I once was,
Nor the person I wanted to be.
Time crept into me and sank its claws.

Visions of a future I aspired to,
Beaten down by the chains of reality.
Handcuffed to a predestined fate,
Can't escape from the river of normality.

In a younger life, I paved my way,
I no longer walked in my inherited shoes,
No longer stood on someone else's shoulders.
The paths in front of me, I would choose.

And for a while I was unstoppable,
Trailblazing towards my future.
Paving the way for others to follow,
I felt, dare I say, super.

But all good things come to an end,
Decisions made by others or by you.
Not sure of the perpetual outcomes,
Going sceptically towards a distant view.

As time goes by things change,
Memories of a different me are lost.
Forgotten in the streams of age,
Burned from mind by time's holocaust!

The mirror momentarily, I see a glimpse,
That version of me I am seeing is Liff?
Is there still hope, did the mirror lie,
Is there a chance....,
What if?
....What if?
