I'm getting ready, the excitement, I have to look just right,
I'm going to my first disco. It is Friday night!

Aftershave and deodorant, though I don't yet need to shave,
I smell so good and I am going to behave!

I meet up with my friends and wait for the bus,
They're done up to the nines, I wonder why all the fuss?

When the bus arrives, we race for the back seat,
We compete for the window and I get there before Pete.

The journey was long, the nerves start to creep in,
I think I'm going to hurl, "Oh I hope there's a bin!"

We finally get there and the bus empties fast,
I'm feeling left alone and I disembark last.

I walk up to the door and it looks extremely big,
As I enter the tempo changes, is that a reel or maybe a jig?

The hall looks uninviting and the floor looks so bare,
No one is dancing, and no one seems to care!

Smokes' on the dance floor and the lights look so nice,
Is something on fire? Nope, it's just dry ice!

I'm into heavy metal and the next song is jam'n,
I walk out on the floor and start head bang'n.

My head is swinging, up and down, to and fro,
My hair is only shoulder length but it took so long to grow!

When I slow down my rhythm and open my eyes
My friends are all around me and that's no surprise.

We head bang away and our necks are feeling sore,
It's the end of the song, but I'd still do some more.

Pete says "Look at that!" I glance over my shoulder,
She's gorgeous, so tall and she looks a bit older.

She can dance so well and her girlfriends too,
We grouped in behind them: we'll know what to do?

Watching her move and thinking this can't be fair!
I look down at my feet, this goes here & this goes there?

I'm getting the hang of it, but then I start to frown,
The D.J. announces, "We're gonna slow things down!"

The girls clear to the sides in a, "Don't touch me!" stance,
The boys start to circle, in hope of a slow dance.

I join in the hunt, in search of my mysterious lady,
I spot her, it's too late. She's on the floor with, Brady.

Disheartened I stop circling and wait for a chance,
For faster music to begin and start my kind of dance.

The slow song is ending and another is about to start,
Brady's standing beside me, "Oh no, my poor heart."

I look all around me and there she is to my right,
Now is my chance, just maybe, she might.

I move over smoothly. Through everybody I pass,
I trip with my impatience, my hands touch her...., at last.

I apologise at once and ask if she's ok?
She said "May I ask you to dance?" and I said "Yes, yes you may."

She said "You're new here!" and asked for my name,
I told her what it was and then asked her the same.

We held each other tight, my hands were feeling around,
I looked at my feet, just to make sure they're on the ground.

She raises her head and leans in for a kiss,
Our lips touch for a moment. I'm in love, this is bliss.

The slow set's over. She said "I'll see you again."
I told her I couldn't wait and that I'll see her then.

We parted our ways, I felt a little more mature,
It's a dance I'll remember, forever I'm sure!

I can't recall the discos end, but I got home alright,
I lay in my bed, "Man, I can't wait 'till next Friday night!"
