Glittering colours all around,
Sparkling lights on every tree.
Magical music in the air,
Familiar songs fill me with glee.

Excitement always lingers behind,
Every Christmas wish I hear.
And ever hopeful in my heart,
That my wish will come true this year.

Every shop on every street,
Filled with toys and Christmas plunder.
Children's eyes widen in awe,
Fingers crossed with hopeful wonder.

Faces stuck to shop windows,
Breath fogging up the glass.
Mittens wiping to see treasures inside,
More prayers said than Midnight Mass.

Enchanted by the dressed-up trees,
Each one more magical than the last.
Staring, lost, at reflective baubles,
Seeing the memories of Christmas past.

At home, my tree is just as nice,
Lights, baubles, and tinsel galore.
I glance down, just to check,
Are any gifts yet, on the floor?

My eyes become oh so tired,
But I'm too excited to sleep.
Grownups say it's time for bed,
My festive thoughts begin to leap.

Eyes grow heavy, vision blurs,
As I finally lose the battle with slumber.
A deep sleep, dead to the world,
Until arose such a clatter like thunder.

I spring from my bed, all a glow,
Don't notice outside the moonlit snow.
I race to the twinkling Christmas tree.
Tear open a box, name for me.
