-_- -_- Virgil's point of view -_- -_-
Sunlight gently filtered through green leaves and landed on Virgil's face. He groaned at the brightness and rolled over. He took in a deep breath but stopped, panic filled him, and he sat up, looking around quickly. He took in the area around him, he was sitting at the edge of a small glade that had a lake nearby and a small meadow of wildflowers. He blinked at the calming sight and took in a shaky breath. It had to be a dream.
"S-Solile..." he whispered. He felt his familiar move closer to him and a small purple lizard clambered up to his leg. He blinked in surprise then cupped his hand and the lizard jumped into his hand. "I-if you're here then..." he felt relief hit him like an ocean wave and tears began to slide down his cheeks "W-We're free..." he gasped and pulled the lizard closer to him.
"We are free Virgil." Solile cooed in his mind and he grinned happily as the lizard gave his cheek a lick. Virgil ran a finger comfortingly down the dragon's spine and they curled into his touch "I missed this." they hissed and he nodded
"M-Me too." he relaxed but flinched as his wounds began to protest all the movements he had just made. His shoulder was burning and his back throbbed. Virgil groaned and curled in on himself, laying on his right side since his left side had an arrow sticking out of it.
"Where a-are we?" he whispered softly as he closed his eyes
"I do not know," they spoke and Virgil swallowed
"How did we get here?"
"You summoned me and we flew... We did not make it far since we both were low on magic." Solile explained and Virgil tensed and opened his eyes
"T-they can still find us." he whimpered out as he pushed himself back into a sitting position. His back groaned in protest but he ignored the pain and struggled to his feet.
"You need to rest, you need to heal." his dragon hissed softly from its perch on his shoulder.
"I can rest when w-we are farther aw-way." he replied "Which way is the castle?" he questioned and the lizard pointed to the left. He turned to his right and began walking as quickly as he could away from the castle. If he had the ability he would have flown away but neither he nor his familiar had the energy to do so. He walked for a few minutes trying to ignoring the pain in his legs until it became too much and he leaned against a tree to take a break.
"W-We'll never get f-far this way." he groaned and he felt panic begin to build in him, if he was caught he would never have another chance to escape. He would die in the well. That thought sent a shiver down his spine and he clenched his fist in determination. He would not be going back. Virgil began to walk again but froze when he heard the snap of a tree branch nearby. He jumped to hide behind a bush and watched as a man with dirty blonde hair and bright blue eyes walked out of some bushes. He was humming a little tune and had a basket full of supplies in hand.
"We need supplies... perhaps you could steal-" Solile was cut off by a quick shake of Virgil's head.
"No, stealing is bad Sol," he whispered as he returned his attention to the blonde. Another group of bushes moved and a man wearing the colors of the dark kingdom came waltzing out. He stopped as he noticed the blonde and raised his sword
"Now look what we got here..." the man grinned darkly causing Virgil to shiver even though it wasn't directed at him. The blonde froze and let out a squeak in surprise.
"O-oh H-hello." the man greeted smiling brightly to hide his fear. The knight ran a finger down the flat of the blade
"I've been sent to find some dissenters... you don't happen to be one of them do you?" he asked. The blonde quickly shook his head and went to take a step away from the man but tripped and landed on his side. He let out a whimper and put a hand on his shoulder. Virgil frowned as he watched the scene happen, guilt and fear ripped through him. If he hadn't stopped when he did he would be in the place of the other man. He swallowed as the knight of the dark kingdom raised his sword and was about to strike the man that was helpless on the ground.
