So that was how my story with my friends ended, but who knew the end was the beginning of another pleasant story. I always believed in second chances, but never experienced one and this time it was a real second chance.
The plane landed on right time at the Dabolim Airport, Panaji. I carried my bags and walked inside the airport for baggage check-in. Excitement was brimming inside me, I couldn't help but think about the fun moments we would have, I imagined a perfect reunion and wedding, I tried my best to evade away all the negative thoughts. I imagined a happy ending to our story, till the harsh reality hits us.
The baggage check-in process was done, my eyes looked for a black Nexus car, Sarah said she would pick me up from the airport. Then I spotted a man in front of me, seemingly he was the driver as he was dressed in a white uniform and a tall and gorgeous woman appeared behind him who looked like Sarah from far and she was.
As soon she found me, she engulfed me in a warm hug and screamed ,earning looks from the passerbyes. They would probably think, we have gone mad, but there's no friendship without little madness, "AA!!! Bestie, I missed you"
"I missed you too, Saroo" I nudged her shoulder "Congrats, once again. I still can't believe that Sarah Mehra will become Sarah Desai soon. Are you filling me in or not?" I wiggled my eyebrows and chuckled, while thinking about their impossible love story.
We hopped inside the car, and she narrated me her story, how she met Aditya again in college and they fell in love. Their respective jobs distanced them apart, but they stood by each other and achieved their goals and how they proposed each other for marriage, even if they had contradicting views about marriage and parenthood. They believed they were meant for each other, and the decision was for the best.
We were few miles away from the Hotel Arcadia, after listening to her story, I felt a sense of comfort and joy inside me. My best friend found the love of her life, what could be more pleasant news than that. I gave her a reassuring hug and grinned.
I sauntered inside the Hotel, when we we reached there, seemingly, the number of guests were bountiful, the budget and expenditure for the wedding was heavy.
While Sarah was away for some paper work for a minute, I sat on the bench in the waiting room near the reception area. My eyes darted towards the news channel on the television broadcasting Saas-Bahu-Saazish. I scoffed at the chessy drama and took out my phone from the pocket of my blazer to keep myself away from what I despise, I scrolled through social media , and also peeked in Arjun's profile and his posts. His last post was a photo of his in a music concert, he has moved on in life and achieved his dreams, I see.
Social Media consumes your entire attention and time doesn't feel slow while you are waiting.
Sarah pushed the door, and entered the waiting room. She signalled me to come to the reception area. I went with her to the reception.
"Here's your room key, Ma'am. Have a nice day" The receptionist handed me Room number 356 key. I expressed my gratitude to her and entered the elevator with Sarah. She pressed the button and the elevator door closed in.
"So, where is your room?" I asked unintentionally and casually.
"Next to yours." She said
"You were.. arranging my room next to yours" I made a wild guess, what it could be.
She nodded her head, and plastered a huge grin on her face, "C'mon yaar, We aren't teenagers anymore. We can do whatever we like, no restrictions on anything and friendship for life"
"Yeah right and has everyone arrived?"
"Most of them have, I know whom are you talking about..Hmm" She raised her brow teasingly and I replied with a sheepish grin. He was my first love, it is hard to forget.
