Jungkook stays the rest of the day and finally, Mr. Kim arrives, looking relieved.
"Seokjin! I'm so glad you're ok. How are you feeling?" He asks, pulling up another chair close to his bedside opposite Jungkook.
Jin gives a weak shrug. "I want to feel numb that way I don't get sharp reminders every time I move. I feel sick and..."
He stops. Mr. Kim looks at him sadly, he spoke too soon. Jin harshly swallows and looks at them with tears in his eyes.
"How long have I been gone?"
"A week."
Jin gently nods. "Do my parents know? Does Mr. Kwon know?"
"Yes and Mr. Kwon told me he had informed your parents of your absence but that's as much as I know. They haven't come around the school however."
"Oh."
It honestly upsets Jin that his parents didn't question him ghosting them for a while or even try to come check up on him. In fact, he hasn't heard anything about Chan either.
"Did Chan ever come around the dorm, Jungkook?"
Jungkook frowns but quickly hides it. He hadn't, which surprised him at first but he remembers that Jin mentioned something about Chan going home for family related issues. He bets Jin's phone is filled with messages from him but his phone is nowhere to be found. It wasn't at the dorm so the only logical place is at Mr. Cho's or he probably dropped it on that day.
"No."
He notices Jin's face drop, becoming even more sad than he was seconds ago. Jin fights tears caused by the pain of finding out that no one really bothered to check on him. His parents, his childhood best friend. He bets Lisa and Jaehwan didn't question his absence either. However...
Jin looks at them. They didn't have to be there either, but they are. He takes a really good look at Jungkook's face and notices the redness around his eyes.
Has he been crying? For him? But why?
He thought he hated him, it definitely seemed like it the last time they talked. He remembers the harsh way Jungkook treated him, the way he looked at him too, the anger in his eyes. Yet here he is, his face resembling his own.
"We can leave you alone to rest if you want. It'd probably be best for you anyway," Mr. Kim says and Jin weakly nods. "I will go meet with Mr. Kwon and discuss what's to happen next. In the meantime, focus on your health, alright? I will take care of everything."
"Thank you Mr. Kim," he says, forcing himself to smile to show his appreciation. He really does feel thankful to have a nice counselor who seems to really sympathize with the students, he just feels too tired to express it properly.
Mr. Kim smiles back at him, noticing his effort. He gets up and walks to the door alone, Jungkook still glued to his seat. As much as he wants to respect Jin's space, he wants to stay. He wants to talk to him about so many things, he's not ready to leave yet.
"Jungkook, aren't you coming?"
He opens his mouth to reply but Jin cuts him off.
"Actually, can you stay a minute? I need to talk to you," Jin says and Jungkook doesn't have to be told twice. But the fact that Jin brought it up on his own first causes him to get a sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach. It's going to be a serious conversation, he knows it.
"Sure. I guess I'll see you later Mr. Kim."
"Alright, you be careful getting home and Seokjin, I'm really glad you're back. I'll come and check up on you this week, see how you're doing. Rest well."
"Rest well too, Mr. Kim."
He closes the door after waving goodbye, leaving the two in awkward silence. Neither one know how to start, both on slightly different pages.
"Why are you here Jungkook?" Jin finally asks after piecing everything together.
"You asked me to stay."
Jin rolls his eyes. "You know what I mean. I wake up and the first thing I see is you clutching onto the sheet, hunched over in your seat. I thought you hated me yet here you are, acting as if you care. We're not friends."
Jungkook feels a pain in his chest at Jin's coldness. It's only fair, he's treated him like shit since that day. But he wasn't expecting it from him, not when he got so used to the kind and shy version of him. He should just be honest, right? Tell him the truth despite fearing all of the endless possible reactions he could have.
"First off, I want to apologize for not hearing you out and giving you a chance to explain. I was angry and... jealous," he says cautiously and his heart begins to beat faster when Jin's facial expression changes drastically from deadpan to irritation and disbelief.
"Why?"
"Because... I..." he takes a deep breath. "Because I started to like you and I hated the idea of you being with anyone else but... me," he says the last part quietly. "No matter how illogical the person seemed."
Jin remains silent for a moment until finally, he erupts. "You stupid fucking idiot."
Jungkook is taken by surprise.
"Do you think this will make things better? That it'll magically fix things? A shitty confession?"
"Seokjin, listen—"
"No. It's time for you listen to me. When someone likes a person, they try to understand one another. When someone likes a person, they would give them a chance to explain a misunderstanding. They would hear them out, listen to them. They wouldn't take their uncalled-for anger out on them and constantly make them feel like shit. I don't care if you say you like me. Your actions spoke very clearly and it's obvious how contradictory it is."
"I-I know, I get that, and I'm sorry Seokjin. I really am. It's my fault that this happened to you because if I had gone to pick you up like Mr. Kim had asked me to, you would've be fine," he ends up admitting, his head hanging low in shame.
"Mr. Kim asked that of you?"
"He had to meet my uncle for some important meeting and since I was under the illusion that you and Mr. Cho had something going on, I went home instead. I've realized since that it was the worst mistake I could've ever made."
"And you just blew him off?"
"I'm sorry."
"Leave."
Jungkook's head snaps back up. "I—"
"And don't come back."
