Etham - I Wish It Was Me:
'You look at me like I'm someone you only need when it goes wrong. But you look at him like he is your missing piece and darling, I wish it was me.'W A R N I N G: aggressive behaviour and language
It was very early in the morning and Lando had just arrived at the airport. He had picked up his trainer Jon on the way and they met up with some mechanics at the terminal. Lando had told Jon about him and Lexi when they started training again a week ago and Jon felt really sorry for him. He liked them together, but he understood their issues. It had been difficult, to say the least. The stream last weekend had been chaos and everyone was asking about Lexi. Lando was getting tired of seeing the same questions in chat so he decided to tell them about their breakup. It wasn't what he wanted at all, but it hurt him to see her name pop up every time. The responses had been mixed. Some people assumed Lexi had cheated on him and he assured them nothing like that happened. After all, he was the one who kissed someone else, unwillingly though.
Looking around the terminal, Lando saw Lexi standing with Helen and Charlotte and he sighed. She looked gorgeous and he would do anything to scoop her up in his arms and hug her right now. He knew he couldn't do that though. She looked happy and he was relieved to see that. The flight boarded half an hour later and Lando saw her walk past him when he took his seat. "Hi.." Lexi said. She didn't look him in the eye for long and walked past to find her seat as well. He couldn't say anything. His mouth was dry and he felt tears well up in his eyes so he grabbed his phone and started scrolling through Instagram to distract himself. Her smile was printed inside Lando's mind and he couldn't stop thinking about her gorgeous eyes. The last few weeks had been so rough for him and he really missed her. Seeing her again was even harder.
The next time he saw her again was the next day at the press conference. She stood in the back and took photos of him and Daniel while they were supposed to answer questions. Lando couldn't really concentrate though and Daniel had to call his name several times to get his attention back. "What's the matter with you? You seemed distracted.." Daniel said when they left the room. "Well yeah, I was. Lexi and I broke up over the summer break and her being around is quite difficult". Daniel talked to him for a while and Lando was happy to have such a supportive teammate. They were getting on really well and Daniel felt like a big brother to him. Lando was happy the day was over now and he headed to his rental car, to go back to the hotel. He saw Lexi walk in front of him and she looked like she was leaving too. He hesitated but ran up to her anyway. "Hey, are you leaving? Want me to give you a lift to the hotel?" He said and she looked a little spooked.
"It's okay if you say no, I just saw you heading towards the exit and thought maybe you wanted a ride". Lando said and he held his hands up to say he didn't mind. "Ehh y-yeah, that's fine". Lexi finally answered and he was in awe with the sweet sound of her voice. Oh god, he missed her so much. "How have you been?" He asked when they were seated in the car before he drove off. "Fine, had a nice holiday, graduated and being back at work, so all good". Lando looked at her and swallowed. She looked happy. Happier than she was when she was with him. He knew that is why they broke up, but it still hurt to see it was actually true. "I'm glad you're happy". He said. Lexi gave him a small smile and turned her head to look out the window. Lando parked the car when they arrived at the hotel and they went inside. "I'll see you later okay? I have to go and meet Jon now". He said and he turned to her. "Thank you for the ride, Lando". Lexi said and she gave him a hug. He was a little taken back by that, but he cherished the feeling anyway. She smelled so good.
The practices on Friday went really well. Lando loved being back in the car and especially here in Spa. His grandparents, who lived in Belgium, visited today and he was having dinner with them and his parents later. He hadn't seen them in a while and he also hadn't told them about the breakup. His mom had asked if Lexi was joining them for dinner and Lando made up an excuse why she couldn't come. He went back to the hotel, had a lovely warm shower and got ready to go. He drove to the restaurant and when he entered he saw his parents and grandparents sitting at a table in the back. "Hey son, it's good to see you again". His father greeted him and he gave his mom and grandparents a hug. He told them everything that evening. From how happy he was with Lexi, to the breakup, the kiss with Stella and the ride back to the hotel yesterday. "It seems like you regret your decision". His grandfather said and he nodded. "Some things are worth fighting for, Lando". His mom said with a sweet smile and he knew she was right.
