Waking up, as usual, I do my morning routine. Putting on my working out attire, I walk to the gym where Lance and grandma already are warming up.
An hour later, I sit on the kitchen island having my smoothie. Once I'm done I go back to my room to shower.
Today grandma had insisted we go out saying that we haven't spent any time together. As if the cooking lessons and the art sessions didn't count as us spending time together. I knew she was up to something but I didn't know what.
After my shower, I get dressed in a white wrap dress showing my curvaceous body. I pair it with some white moccasins. I decide to leave my hair down, putting on my silver hoop earrings and applying lipgloss onto my pink lips.
I get my purse. Walking downstairs I find the house evenly quiet. Hanna, Ronald, and Connor hadn't left saying that their house is still being renovated. Grandpa didn't mind and allowed them to stay for as long as they'd like. Even after I had given them the recording, grandpa looked through the Smith Co-op accounts and found nothing out of the ordinary, so he had me drop the accusations. If you'd even call it that.
"Ooh, you are ready!" Grandma squeals behind me.
" Grandma, you need to stop doing that," I say out of breath. I don't know which part of don't-scare-pregnant-ladies she didn't understand.
"Ooh hush, let's go before your grandpa changes his mind," Grandma says pulling me towards the front door. We get into the car and Ken pulls out of the driveway.
"Where are we going ?" I ask and she smiles hugely at me.
" You'll see," Grandma says.
" Why do I get the feeling that I would regret coming with you?" I ask going through my phone.
" You wouldn't. Trust me. " She says.
I don't pay attention to the road and continue to scroll through my phone. Checking my social media notifications, this way I could see what my friends were up to even though I was far away.
"We are here," Grandma says as the engine goes off. Ken comes over to my side and gets my door. Helping me out I almost facepalm myself.
Freaking book club.
"Grandma..." I whine.
" Come on, you loved it last time. You couldn't stop talking about the place. Now stop being a brat and let's go." She says and Ken chuckles.
" I couldn't stop talking about it because I didn't exactly enjoy my time here!" I glare at her.
" Well, now we are here. And you, Kaylee Rose, are going in with me." She says leaving no room for arguing. I huff.
I follow her in. I almost escape before she grabs my hand and pulls me towards her group of friends.
I love to read, no doubt.
But when you have to read with these judgmental old hags, minus my grandma, you'll like reading a little less. It doesn't help when they choose to read erotica. Like what the fuck!
" Naomi, glad to see you. I see you brought your granddaughter. Again." Winnie, the head of the book club says.
" Yes, she insisted that she tags along. Last time she had fun. " Grandma says. I snicker. Last time I was here I almost fought with Winnie cause she had forgotten my name and called me, the black pregnant lady.
I'm black and pregnant but my name is Kaylee.
" Well, I'm glad to see you again, Kaylee," Winnie says and I roll my eyes.
" Let's get started then, where were we before Naomi and Kaylee joined us? " Winnie asks picking her book.
" Page 43, second paragraph. " Eunice says.
I pick the book, turning to page 43. Fifteen minutes into the book I excuse myself to go to the restroom.
Finishing my business, I wash my hands. Planning to leave I bump into someone making them drop their purse. I look up and see it's Winnie. Ooh great.
"Why don't you just leave? I don't want you here, no one wants you here. " She sneers.
" And what makes you think that I care about what you want? " I ask.
" Cause we all know you have Naomi and Smith brainwashed. You made them believe that you are their missing granddaughter. You look nothing like sweet Meridith." Winnie says and I slap her hard leaving my handprint on her cheeks.
" Next time you want to talk to me about my mother, think twice. You are a shitty person Winnie, find someone else to trouble, cause this bitch ain't going nowhere. " I say emphasizing each word.
She whimpers scurrying away and I head back to where the others are. I take my things and walk out, if grandma wants to spend time with me, then she better find something else.
An hour later we pull up at the mansion's driveway. Getting out I furrow my brows staring at the black SUVs parked outside and the music coming from the house. I go in first, followed by my grandma.
I let out a scream as I see the people standing in front of me.
"Mia, Hazel, Colin, Ryan, Arianna, Shawn, Neil, Lyn, Alexander, Amelia, Lou, Lenny, Lance, Rithick, and Grandpa?" I call out scanning their faces. They are here.
I hug everyone as they say how much they have missed me. Even Lance. I hit him playfully.
"I can't believe you are all here," I say looking around the room. My heart swells.
" Well, you should thank your grandma. She gave invited us here for your baby shower. " Mia says hugging me again.
I turn to look at my grandma who is sipping her wine silently. A smile playing on my lips. I hug her, muttering a thank you.
"Let's get this party started!" Colin shouts and I giggle. Some things never change.
"What's going on here?" The front door opens and the room grows quiet. There stands Hanna, Ronald, and Connor, confused.
Everybody goes back to talking and the three evil minions join the party drinking and watching us. Nobody seems to mind so the party goes on smoothly.
Until the front door bursts open. Again.
"Other uninvited guests huh?" Colin asks.
In comes the Sheriff and police officers behind him, armed.
"Scott? What's the matter?" Grandpa asks.
" I'm here for them. " Scott says pointing at Hannah, Ronald, and Connor.
"You three, are under arrest for the murder of Stella Young. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to an attorney. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be appointed for you." Scott states as the police handcuff the three.
" Uncle! Please I didn't do anything... Uncle... I don't want to go to jail." Connor exclaims.
" Shut up Connor. He ain't gonna help you." Hanna says as they are led out of the house.
" Scott, what is happening?" Grandpa asks and Scott shakes his head.
" I'm just doing my job," Scott says before leaving.
Grandpa turns to look at me, his face hardening staring at me.
"I didn't do anything." I voice but he shakes his head, he walks out. Slamming the door behind him.
I feel my dress getting wet. Looking down I gasp.
"I think my water just broke," I murmur and heads snap in my direction.
