Time's up! (A Clone Wars Fanfic)

Part 11- The Farm

She sat with Jesse, but couldn't stop looking at Rex. She just hoped he'll be okay...

After some time of driving, they finally found a farm. Kix was the first one to arrive there, right in front of the door. Suddenly, a woman opened the door and pointed a shotgun at Kix (I'm no expert in weapons but I think that's what she had). Jesse and Melian got between the woman and Kix's speeder.
"Easy with that weapon ma'am. We're here as friends" He said while taking his helmet off.
"State your business" The woman replied with a harsh tone.
"Our captain's been hurt. We need-"
"I'm no doctor". Melian saw the boys aren't gonna do much good, she should probably jump into it.
"We have a medic ma'am, we just need a place to tend him, overnight" she tried to have a soothing voice. The woman's kids ran out, but she kind of forced them inside. She sighed
"Look there are some benches in the barn. That's the best I can do."
"That'll be fine. Thank you ma'am"

While Kix was taking care of Rex, Melian was standing outside. Even though they were in a war, she avoided injuries and similar when she could. Melian could hear them talking, she learned to distinguish their voices.
"That would've gone thru your heart had it been two inches to the left" Really comforting thing to say, Hardcase. At this point Melian entered the barn, she just had to know what's happening. He seemed to have some nerve damage. The woman came in to give them some food and introduced herself as Suu. Just as Jesse was grabbing the plate with food, a ball of some kind flew into the barn and under the bench Rex was on. Of course, the kids were playing and the ball got away, no big deal, Melian smiled at the little girl. The girl looked at Rex and said something Melian will never forget
"You look like my daddy". They all looked at eachother, did they hear the same thing?

"Resume the search without us. Jesse, you're in command, we'll be fine" Melian looked at Jesse, standing behind Rex's bench.
"Melian you don't have to stay, I'll be alright:"
"Oh I know you will. Go Jesse" she smiled at Rex.

Night has fallen hours ago, Rex fell asleep. Melian had exited the barn multiple times to just look at the stars and the night sky. It was so beautiful, every star was so clear, unlike on Coruscant where, if you saw a single star, you're a lucky man. She was still amazed by the sky, but weird sounds from the barn had gotten her attention. She hurried inside to see Rex fighting off one of those animals in the barn. Melian laughed a little, trying to be quiet. When Rex saw her he kinda looked worried
"You're not sleeping?"
"No, I'm not tired" she smiled. In reality she was really tired but she wanted to be on alert at all times.
"You can sleep on the bench here, I can move"
"No, no, it's fine Rex, if I wanted to sleep I already would have, trust me. Besides, you've been hurt, you should rest" Melian said while covering him with a blanket that fell from the bench.
"If you say so. But if you change your mind, just wake me up" he want back to sleep.
