Part 10- The shot

Some days, when her master has some tasks in the Jedi Temple, he would send Melian on missions with Obi-Wan and Ashoka. It was one of those days. He had to assemble some kind of report on something for the Jedi council. No problem, she can hang out with Ahsoka. Turns out, she's studying for something. It really isn't her day today, is it? Then her master came with news that Obi-Wan is going to Saleucami to catch General Grievous. Great! Rex, some boys and Melian accompanied Obi-Wan and the 212th in the hunt on Grievous.

They landed on Saleucami, ready for whatever Grievous has got for them.
"Instead of searching for all the escape pods, we'll head to the wreck of the ship". Melian nodded. Rex got onto a speeder and Obi-Wan and her got on one of the AT-TE's.

Upon arriving to the wreck of Grievous' ship, they discovered that the thermal housing intakes are still warm which means the ship couldn't have crashed too long ago.
"We'll split into teams, Melian, take Rex, Jesse, Kix and Hardcase and search the wetlands."
"Sure Master. Also, do I drive on the speeder alone or?" Melian asked praying she would get to drive the speeder alone.
"I prefer you drive with someone, if that's okay with you"
"Sure Master Kenobi, we'll be careful" she said, already turning around to leave.
"Also Melian, if you get a visual on Grievous, do not, and I repeat, do not engage with him. Contact us" He seemed pretty clear on that.
"Of course Master".

"You driving with me?" Rex... sometimes Melian wondered if they're close only as friends or... perhaps something more.
"Yeah, I guess" she smiled. But she didn't want to just sit there and do nothing. So she ran to his speeder. He realised what she was doing and started running after her
"Oh no you won't!". He somehow outran Melian and came to the speeder faster, sitting in the front.
"Sit in the back please" ohh she could just feel him grinning.
"Hold on tight, the wind is going to be strong and since you don't have a helmet I suggest you put your head sideways and lay it down." He seemed so caring and sweet, how could Melian even be mad at him?

They were talking the whole ride, he made her laugh. God, she loves him. Turn... Turn!! Something was telling Melian to turn. When she realised what it's about, it was too late, she heard a shot and Rex and her were flying. Luckily, she pushed off the floor with the Force and they landed safely. Melian layed Rex gently on the floor and saw a big hole from the shot.
"Gosh..." she kneeled down to look at him better. Melian may be a jedi but she is no medic, she had to wait for Kix. To her and Rex's luck, he came quickly. They just looked at eachother. He took off Rex's helmet, then Hardcase and Jesse joined them. Melian tried to hide that she's panicking, but the shot is really close to the heart.
"How bad?" Jesse asked when he came
"Pretty bad. I have to remove his armor to see the full extent of the damage" Melian was getting worried now. Where could they find a place for Kix to do that? Then she saw something.
"Those critters are domesticated."
"Sir?" Kix was confused.
"I think we're on a farmland. And where there's a farm, there's usually a farmer. Lets find his homestead, shall we?" All three of them nodded.
"So, who am I going with" Melian looked at the three of them.
"You tell me, sir"
"Well then I'll go with you Jesse, since you're so eager that I go with you" she dramatized a bit, just for fun. Kix and Hardcase laughed. They pulled an extension from Kix's speeder and placed Rex there. Instead of putting Rex's helmet on the extension he was on, Melian took it and put it on her head, it made her feel better. She sat with Jesse, but couldn't stop looking at Rex. She just hoped he'll be okay...
