Y/n didn't know whether or not Loki was being serious about what he threatened to her. Why did it affect her so much? Wanda wasn't an enemy, but she also wasn't her friend. She was nice to her, but she also didn't trust her. She couldn't trust anyone really.
She hated to admit it, but sometimes she would actually miss being Hydra's puppet. She didn't have to think for herself, she didn't have all of these overwhelming emotions, and she had an actual purpose.
She smacked her head in the middle of the path as she was walking in the village. What was she thinking? Of course, all of this was better than being a Hydra goon. All she wants is to settle down, not think about anything. But all of these powers, things about her history, and these new people were keeping her from that desire.
Y/n walked through the markets, admiring each booth and seller. There were products ranging from street food to trinkets to clothes, but she didn't have any money with her. It warmed her heart seeing children running around and parents watching them admirably, it made her miss her own family.
She reached the town square and in the middle was a grand fountain, a statue of Odin the Allfather poised dead in the center. She sat on the outer ring of it and observed everything going on around her. For once, she was able to relax. No worrying about Hydra, no Avengers trying to test her or capture her, no Loki or Thor or Valkyrie trying to tug her around to show her some obscure part of Asgard. The only occurrence of relaxation was when she was with Wanda even though it was for a short time. She thought about trying to connect with Wanda again since she was able to exert her powers earlier. Maybe it would work under her terms this time.
She closed her eyes and meditated, trying to feel Wanda. Wanda did say that she could "feel her", whatever that meant, so maybe she could feel Wanda if she tried hard enough. People glanced at the weird woman sitting on the fountain with her eyes closed, but they've seen weirder things, so they moved on with their lives.
Y/n breathed in and out, relaxing her mind, tuning out all of the noise around her, and thought about Wanda. Wanda's toothy smile after she ate Wanda's carrot cake, Wanda's mocking laughs when she cried about Grey's Anatomy, and Wanda's soothing voice when she was having her panic attack.
Then there she was, in the compound once again. Oddly, in her room? There were wet tears on her face and the t-shirt she wore clutched in her hands.
*Why were you crying?*
*I don't know what you're talking about...* Wanda huffed in her subconscious. Y/n surprised she could still hear her emotion even though she was in control of Wanda.
*So you weren't just crying while holding my t-shirt in your hands?*
*I was just having a moment,* Wanda retorted, the sadness in her voice was faint, dominated with irritation.
*I thought you'd be happy that I came back since you basically professed your love for me the last time I was here,* y/n smirked which Wanda could sense by the way y/n phrased it. Y/n wiped away the tears from her cheeks and placed the damp shirt on top of the dresser.
*I did not profess my love for you, I explained how I was feeling because of you,* Wanda shot back subconsciously.
*Uh huh. Okay well, I think I need some elaboration on what you meant by you could 'feel me' because honestly, it sounds kinda weird.*
Wanda remained silent. It wasn't because she was annoyed at y/n, but she couldn't even explain her feelings.
*Uh, Wanda?* No response. Y/n walked over to her former bed and sat at the edge. She tried to keep her thoughts clear because Wanda would just read them all, but it didn't work very well.
*I felt her, that's the only way I even got here. But I don't understand how this even worked or why. It just did.* y/n thought to herself.
*That's how I feel, too.* Wanda finally spoke up, which scared y/n since she was used to the brief silence and it made her physically gasp. *Sorry, didn't mean to startle you. But I don't understand why either, I've looked into so many people's heads and I've never been connected to them like this.*
*Well how do you feel then?*
*I already told you,*
*You know what I mean,* y/n retorted.
Wanda took a second to gather her thoughts. The thing was that she did care about y/n, but she was afraid to tell her just yet. They've barely had time together, but within this short amount of time, it felt like they've known one another for so long and y/n had to be feeling the same way.
*I- I don't know...* Wanda trailed off.
*You don't know or you don't want to say,* y/n inquired.
*Were you always this cocky because I'd say you're on the same playing field as Stark right now,* Wanda groaned.
*Stop avoiding the question, Wanda,* y/n said with a serious tone.
*I can't describe it, okay? It feels like I've known you forever even though it's barely been a week! And then you just have this pure personality that's also sarcastic in such a perfect way. And you've experienced so much and it feels like we connect in such a perfect way, but now you're not even on the planet, you're in my body and I can't even look into your perfect eyes-* Wanda stopped abruptly. She didn't mean to say that last part.
*Oh? Perfect eyes? Why thank you,* y/n said with little modesty. Y/n decided to get up at this point to stretch her legs. She had been sitting for quite a while and it's not like she couldn't continue her little banter with Wanda in her subconscious.
*You're going to get up to walk right now? In the middle of this? Remember you can't multitask!* Wanda exclaimed. *Yeah yeah, Princess, I just wanna take a walk around, hopefully, I don't run into anyone, especially Vision. Don't need to see that toaster right now,* y/n told Wanda as she was now making her way into the common area where everyone was sat down.
"Hey, Wanda! How are you feeling?" Bruce interjected from his position on the couch next to Steve, Nat, and Sam. "Oh, uh, I'm okay," y/n stammered. *Great, mission failed,* Wanda mocked.
*You're so annoying,* y/n shot back rolling her eyes accidentally which made the team confused.
"Whatcha thinking about, Wanda?" Sam asked, which y/n didn't pay attention to at first, since well, that's not her name, but she was startled when Nat shouted her name to get her attention.
"Oh, sorry," y/n muttered, still standing at the entryway of the common area. "You seem pretty aloof right now, kid," Steve added in with the rest of them nodding. Vision then realized what was happening and he butted into the conversation.
"Wanda's just been having trouble sleeping, you saw what happened last night, I think she's just tired," Vision gestured at y/n with his eyes to get her to confirm. "Yeah, he's right. I think I'm gonna go take a nap," y/n replied and quickly turned back to her room.
"What were you doing in y/n's room by the way?!" Nat shouted making y/n rush even faster towards the elevator, she could hear the entire group laughing as the elevator doors shut.
*Nicely played,* Wanda mocked.
*Oh shut up!*
a/n: Sorry for such a late update, school has been really hectic with AP exams coming up and I've also just needed a break from writing this story haha. I've been writing Wanda one-shots on AO3, let me know if you think I should post them on Wattpad as well!
