Days go by and I haven't heard a thing from Danny. We haven't spoken since the night of our birthday party, and my wolf was going insane inside my mind.
I was growing restless not being able to be with him, and the only way I knew how to get this anxious feeling in me out was to run.
I decided while Maya was out with her friends I'd ask Lilith to go on a run with me so I could explain what she saw.
She hadn't brought it up, but I know when I saw her she looked slightly worried. From her point of view I know it looked bad.
We decided to meet at the nearest sight that our pack owned, which thankfully was only 15 minutes from where we lived.
The familiar long stretch of road brings me some comfort. I remember my parents always taking us out here for runs. It was always my favorite spot in Houston. Especially during the summer nights.
Deep into the woods was a small pond that was always covered with light bugs. Memories of Maya and I running through there as we tried to catch the bugs with our hands filled my mind and made me smile.
Of course the sweet memory only made me think of the situation I was in.
I felt guilty. She liked Danny a lot and really thought he was her mate. I was afraid to know what her reaction would be when I would finally have to tell her he was actually mine.
When I arrived at the empty lot in our packs land, Lilith's car already parked. Looked like it was just us out here today.
I pull up beside her and join her beside her car.
"Hey Angie" she says with a smile as she engulfs me into a hug. In this moment I was so thankful to have her. Lilith quickly became like a older sister figure for me the moment Kai first introduced her to Maya and I.
"So what's going on?" She asks once we pull away.
I sigh and shake my head. "Can we go on the run first. I've got a lot of pent up energy." I chuckle.
Lilith smiles at me and nods her head.
We both part ways as we undress behind our cars and set our clothes inside them.
I shift into my white and silver wolf and meet Lilith by the tree line.
Her large reddish brown wolf appears behind her car and she darts towards the trees. I follow close behind.
"To the pond?" She asks
"Yes!"
We both race to the pond as fast as we could. Every now and then we'd playfully bump each other to slow the other down.
When we finally made it we stopped right at the lining of the trees where it opens up to the pond.
Lilith makes a sharp left, and I instantly know where she's headed.
We both stop at the headstone that still had a fresh arrangement of pink flowers.
Xiomara Marlene Salinas Micheals
Lilith and Kai's first baby. They had lost her by miscarriage about 6 years ago.
"I wonder who she could've been sometimes." Lilith says sadly before turning her glossy golden eyes to me.
My wolf whines at her confession, and I push my head against the side of hers in comfort.
She settles down by the headstone and I follow in suit.
"So what's going on?" She finally asks.
I internally groan, earning a scoff from Lilith.
