Tyler's POV

Driving back to Houston was a bitch. I broke every speed limit and still managed to show up after dark. Who the fuck knows where Angie and Daniel could be at this point. They had hours ahead of us to get away.

Kai and our parents all crowded in Seth's hospital room. Tara was caring for Anna, while the rest of leadership turned this god forsaken city upside down trying to find them.

"Did he say anything? Anything at all about his plans?" My dad asks.

Seth sighs. "No. All I remember is them saying something about a warehouse and heights." He says with a frustrated tone. "I'm sorry I- I tried to call for help but no one came" he says beginning to cry.

"Yeah that's a conversation for another day." Kai spits as he sends daggers to the hospital staff passing by the door.

"It's not their fault Kai. There are other patients here who need tending to. They couldn't know" My mom says calmly.

Kai doesn't respond, but the vain popping out on his neck says he wanted to.

"What do heights have to do with a warehouse?" I ask exasperated.

Then it clicks. "Wait. The heights." I say. Everyone in the room stares blankly at me.

"They didn't literally mean heights. They mean The Heights. The area in northwest Houston." I say.

Recognition reaches their eyes, and my dad pulls out his phone.

"The Heights are a tourist destination, there can't be that many empty warehouses there." Kai adds.

"I'm calling Alyssa." My dad says.

"We need to go, now" Kai says looking at me.

The two of us leave the room while I start searching maps on my phone of the area. Luckily Kai was right, there weren't many warehouses in the area, but there were still more than we expected.

When we reach Kai's car, the group text with all of leadership has a location of 10 warehouses in the area, and the addresses. Messages from Alyssa and Toby flood in about who goes where so we cover more ground.

"Take 610, by this hour it would've died down." I tell Kai.

The two of us fly down the freeway and make it to our destination within 20 minutes. This is what sucked about living in a city. We could've made it faster by foot in our wolf forms, but not through a fucking city.

"They picked this area on purpose, they knew it would take us forever to get here" I grumble.

"I'll give Ryland one thing. He's fucking smart." Kai spits.

"What if we don't fi -"

"Don't" Kai says cutting me off. "Just don't. Okay?" He says, his voice sounding softer than before.

I nod, and silence falls between the two of us for only a few short seconds before he speaks up again.

"You ever feel like our family is cursed?"

"Why do you ask?" I was surprised by his sudden question. Although he had his moments, Kai wasn't really the negative type. He was always a take action kind of guy.
