I was a bit happy that she tried to guide me on my way out. Claire wasn't really the type of girl to insist on this but I guess she changed her mind when I tried to do a fair apology for what happened to her.

To be honest, I couldn't blame her at all. This was the first time that happened to her

The subdivision was like a maze. There were large houses and most of them were silent. Looking back at Claire, I couldn't help but call her out once I saw her too far ahead of me. She walked too fast and probably already wanted me gone.

And that made me a bit sad since she was still wary of me.

"Is there a reason why you called me?" She then looked at me with a confused gaze as soon as I coughed. I was hesitant at this point. I didn't know how she'll react if I asked her this.

But knowing that my life would be bothered by my teammates, I took a bit of my time to breathe in and out before telling her, "I have a favor to ask you."

She then chuckled. "Geez, I thought it was something that serious. Alright, shoot."

"When we encounter each other at school, can you pretend nothing happened?" Her smile then disappeared as soon as I continued.

"My teammates would ask too many questions if they see us being suspicious." Her mouth went agape for a while before understanding the favor and deciding to agree.

"Deal. I never liked drama anyway," she replied as I gave her a thumbs up. I was happy with her answer so I couldn't help but cheer. That's good. At least, I wouldn't have to deal with the guys teasing me now and then.

Since I had a bit of a loud voice, the sleeping dog, not too far away from us, woke up. It stared at us with a confused gaze at first but then showed its teeth once it saw that we were going in its direction.

"Gosh, Miss Julia's dog woke up. It's good that it knows me," I heard Claire next to me mumble. Soon, she saw my reaction and widened her eyes. I just stood there, not moving, as the dog tried to approach us in a menacing walk.

I'm going to admit that I'm quite scared of dogs. I've had a bit of a rough past with them. Knowing that this dog could bite me at any second, I stood there like a block of ice when I saw it stop and growl at us.

I don't really know whose dog this was but it looked like it was ready to chase us — very much willing to bite.

In a split second, I saw the dog being distracted by a cat. So, I took this chance to escape silently. I tried not to make any sound by distancing myself from the dog.

But as soon as it looked in my direction, there was my instinct telling me to run for my life. And, I did.

"Ethan!" I heard Claire calling out my name as I tried not to look back since I knew that the dog was still chasing me. A Rottweiler too.

I no longer hesitated to leave Claire and run away. Rottweiler dogs are not the type that I want to become friends with.

The dog was still behind me and it was still gaping at me and barking. I absolutely thought that it would be a nice day since I already apologized for my mistakes but I guess Karma didn't really get the news.

Suddenly the dog stopped, which startled me. I looked back, not noticing what was in front of me.

"What the hell!" I heard a shout and looked ahead of me again. I saw Vanessa's friend sniffing at me. It was because her blouse got wet as soon as I bumped into her. I'm dead, again.

"Are you blind? Why don't you look where you're going?" she yelled at me as I just smiled foolishly.

"You're still beautiful, Jenny," I said with a wink. I just don't really want to fight here. First of all, this girl's crazy. She will report me to Vanessa.

This woman brings trouble to my life. I'm still wondering why I decided to meet her when Vanessa introduced her to me. I should've run away back then.

"Ethan? What the—stop with your flirting, alright? Vanessa is worried about you! What are you doing here in this subdivision anyway?" I almost cursed right in front of her face when I heard that question. Great, how am I supposed to answer that?

Knowing this girl would try to ask more questions if I told her the truth, I decided to lie to avoid the chaos.

"We just did a project with my friends. One of us lives here so we met at their house. Nothing much, just a casual meeting of my buddies," I told him. I do hope she fell for that.

There was a slight pause before she quickly nodded and smile. "Oh okay. I'll tell Vanessa about your project. She's really worried. She called me earlier."

"Oh, wait, I'll try to call her again so both of you could talk," she added as she dialed Vanessa's number.

I had to run away. I don't want to hear Vanessa's voice anymore. It's not that I hate her just yet. I wasn't really in the mood to have a conversation with her, that's all.

I slowly walked further away from her. I then heard Vanessa answer and that was the time I took my chance to run again. I didn't even count because it seemed like my life was at stake here.

"What the—? Ethan! Come back here! Hey!" I heard Jenny scream as I didn't look back. I just took a little breath as soon as I couldn't see her anymore.

If I knew that I would run to that girl, I would've just brought my car. I could still hear Jenny's screams as I walked farther and farther away.
