I looked at the two of them. Ethan dragged Benedict with a hint of frustration.

Actually, Benedict was just talking to me. He was asking if Sam and I can go to the Basketball Match. I'm sure right away Benedict had a crush on Sam and he just didn't want to admit it.

My lips curled into a smile as Sam went ahead of me and took the escalator down to follow my aunt at Jollibee. Even before we got to the first floor, we saw Aunt Mich waving her hand at us right at the counter.

We could already see that she ordered food for us.

Sam's face brightened and immediately so she went ahead and quickly descended on the escalator — running inside the fast-food chain with a big smile plastered on her face.

Since she was already too far, I followed her quickly and made sure not to lose sight of her. She picked a spot near the window and I sat right across her.

As we waited for Aunt Mich, Sam's eyes focused on the phone in her hand ---twisting it a bit and staring at it intently.

"This isn't your phone," she claimed before trying to wave it in front of my face. "Whose phone is this?"

"Ethan's." Her mouth was agape when she heard the name coming out of my mouth. Yes, she was thinking of something else. She probably thought that I took it as punishment too.

"Don't tell me you stole this," she told me as my eyes widened at her and scoffed. Out of all the phones that I could have, why Ethan's? That would be a nice question to ask her back.

"Do you really think that I'd be interested in his phone?" She looked at the phone weirdly before shrugging. I then saw her looking at the phone's applications but away as much as possible on the private stuff. She has a bit of respect left.

Her eyes then went over back to my direction and took her time to say something over the last seconds. "Then, why is it in your possession?"

When I was really silent, her eyes widened. Her fingers then pointed at me in a way that she wanted to prove something. "No way. Is there something between you two?"

That took me by surprise. No, I wasn't really expecting that question. My eyes wandered over the phone and then back at her — shaking my head and waving my hands side-by-side. "Not that I'm aware of. No."

"But, what was that all about? The dragging thing earlier at the second floor?" she suddenly furrowed her eyebrows as if she was confused. I couldn't really answer that question of hers.

I was curious too.

"Maybe it's a bro code or something?" There was a bit of uncertainty in my tone so it was already obvious that I don't know what it was all about as well.

"I'm pretty sure it's not," she answered and Sam was literally trying to guess why Ethan acted that way.

I could see her thinking face in front of me — her eyes narrowed, her fingers trying to point elsewhere, and her mind is probably drifting somewhere deep in her thoughts.

Suddenly, she snapped her fingers. "Do you think he likes you?"

"How'd you come up with that idea?" I couldn't help but frown and raise an eyebrow at her. There was no way that would be true. It's a crazy statement coming from her.

Ethan already has a girlfriend. There was no way that he'd like me.

"I just feel like he does." Sam shrugged before she then waved the phone at me.

"That's crazy." That was the only thing I could say before I saw Aunt Mich coming back with our food on the tray. She looked at us, clueless.

"So, what are you talking about?" she asked us as she sat next to me. Since Sam was the one holding the phone, she answered her question.

"Nothing, auntie. We're just thinking of going shopping later since we're already here. I just looked up some clothes and showed it to Claire," she explained, totally lying since she was intrigued by what was happening behind the scenes.

Of course, I couldn't help but facepalm. There was literally nothing happening but she's here like she's Sherlock Holmes.

"Oh, I almost forgot. I'm just going to meet someone. I'll be back as soon as I can," Aunt Mich said as she took out her own phone from her bag and looked at the time. She then excused herself as Sam smiled at her.

"Don't worry, auntie. You can take your time. We're not going anywhere," Sam replied before waving. I just smiled at him while trying not to snatch Ethan's phone back --- which laid on the table. I tried so hard not to alarm Sam.

But, eventually, she saw my hand and took the cellphone again. I was so close. I just sighed and sat properly as she stuck her tongue out at me.

"Don't even try," she replied with a smile before turning on the phone.

I frowned.

"Sam. You shouldn't look at other people's phones." I replied while Sam kept on scrolling on the home screen.

She smiled at me for no reason whatsoever. "Hmm, after a few seconds."

That was the only thing she replied before she started to look at the phone's applications - mainly the games on it and ignoring me.

I just shook my head and took the chicken and spaghetti before eating. Suddenly, Sam's eyes widened --- putting the phone down immediately as soon as the phone vibrated and played a ringtone.

Sam looked at me, mortified. "Who the hell is Vanessa?"

Hearing the name coming out of her lips, I grabbed the phone that was on the table and accepted the call. I put the phone to my ear and said hello.

The first thing I heard was a girl answering back to me, her tone laced with hatred.

"Stay away from Ethan. I'm warning you, " she replied to me as I looked at Sam. From the looks of it, she was worried that I might get into a fight.

Well, to be honest, I really might if she kept on talking rudely.

"Look, little girl, your boyfriend left your phone in a hurry."

"You have no right to talk to me like that." My eyes rolled as soon as she talks more about how she's the girlfriend of Ethan.

Oh, please, I already know. You mention it every time you talk to me.

Not taking any more of her rambling, I asked her. "Look, do you even know who I am?"

"No," she simply answered and I then made her speechless by telling her off.

"Well, then, there's your answer." That was my last response before I ended our call. Sam looked at me with wide eyes, looking at the phone before at me.

"Who was that?" she asked as I put the phone down and looked away.

Crossing my arms, I stared at her seriously. "His girlfriend."
