E T H A N
Our date went pretty great, excluding the messages that my sister sent me earlier before our meal got served. Most of them were about Vanessa and to be honest, I wasn't in the mood to talk to her.
Even if Vanessa did return back here, I wouldn't really be the one first to greet her at the airport.
Taking a final bite out of the pork, I silently chewed on it and decided to finally take a peek at my phone. There were almost eleven unread messages but only three struck my attention. Claire probably noticed me since I felt her hand brush mine.
"Is there something wrong?" Claire's eyes had some curiosity lingering in them but I decided to ignore it and pull my hand back away from hers.
I shook my head afterward, waving her question off. "No, it's nothing. It's just my sister."
She knew that it was bad news so she decided to leave it as it is. But I still don't know how to react right now. The only options I had were to answer my sister or leave her wondering. Though, if I do that, that would be like declaring war on her.
A loud sigh escaped my lips as I didn't notice Benedict and Sam staring at me with confused gazes, their eyebrows raised, and a frown plastered on their face.
They wanted to ask me if I was alright, since Benedict was about to pat my shoulder, but didn't really continue when my phone beeped for the last time. I took out my phone and stood up, excusing myself afterward.
This time, I knew that I had to read the messages I had sooner or later. Ray even left a text earlier and asked if I was busy at the moment. That's how I knew that this wasn't going to be a great day to be reckless.
Opening up the home screen, I went through my messaging app and saw Yen's messages, and scrolled back up. Though, three messages were the most important. So, I decided to open them.

Where are you? Pick Vanessa up at the airport.
Yen | 7:40 pm
I received a message from Vanessa. Where the hell are you? She's been waiting there for like an hour.
Unknown number | 8:10 pm
I already picked Vanessa up. She asked me where you were. I can't keep a secret though, can't I? Good luck with talking to her when she visits.
Wait, Vanessa's here? Already? I thought that Vanessa was going to be here next week, not today.
Damn it, Ray probably advised her to book early.
I should've fought this bastard earlier. Ever since I've been seeing him everywhere I go, I suspected that he had followed me to report back to Vanessa.
A bit furious, I decided to go back to the group and take my sports bag that was next to Benedict. Claire's eyes were fixated on me as I huffed, grabbing the wallet from my pocket and dropping a five-hundred peso bill. She could probably tell that I was furious.
Though, my gaze softens as I met her eyes. It would be bad if I just leave her here. This is our first date and I'm here, almost ruining it.
"Are you ready to go? I'll be the one to take you home," I asked Claire without hesitation since I noticed that she was already waiting for Sam to finish her meal.
Though, my eyes widened when she quickly faced Sam before turning back to me after she exchanged a few talks.
"Alright, let's go." She stood up from her seat, took her bag, and walked ahead of me. I told Benedict that he could be the one to take Sam home and he completely agreed.
Considering that it was my car, I told Benedict that they might as well take a taxi. It wasn't that late so I'm sure they would be fine on their way back. As soon as I walked outside and went to our parking spot, I already saw Claire waiting next to my car.
"I'll drop you off at your home and then leave after that. It's an emergency." Claire's eyes widened and she suddenly waved her hand to tell me that she didn't want to go inside the car.
"Oh no, if it's an emergency then I'll just take a taxi with Sam and Benedict. I don't want to burden you—" I didn't let her finish her sentence.
"I insist. I don't want to ruin our first date like this," I told her before opening the door for her. I could tell that she was hesitating since she kept on looking back at me with a sad look.
The only answer I could give her was a nod. It was hard to convince her at first but I guess she knew that we'd be stuck here for a long time if she refused and the way I waited for her to agree was another proof that I wasn't going to give up easily.
I really do want to take her home.
She finally went inside the car and I then followed. Though, I didn't expect that our car ride would be silent. Her eyes were cast outside and I held the steering wheel tight.
That still happened until I finally reached her home. I was about to open my door when she suddenly stopped me. My eyes turned in her direction and I was shocked to see her open hers before she smiled.
"No need. I can handle myself from here. Thanks for taking me home."
I wanted to stay for much longer but all I could manage was to ask her. "Are you sure?"
"Yes, Ethan. Now, hurry, you still have an emergency, right?" She quickly waved and I didn't really expect that she'd be understanding. Nodding, I finally gave her a goodbye smile.
"I'll make it up to you, somehow," I replied to her before letting her walk towards the gate of their house and finally seeing her go right inside.
And unexpectedly, my phone beeped. Looking at a single glance, I huffed as I saw the message my sister sent me.
Yen | 9:15 pm
Go home. Mom is furious.
