There was this kind of feeling where I hesitated about going inside her house or not.
Judging by the look on her face, I knew that she was quite annoyed that I left my phone in her house.
Why did I even forget? I wanted to smack myself for being forgetful.
Even when she was going in the direction of her desktop desk, she had these stomps as she walked. As I walked behind her, I let out a sigh. I knew that she was a bit troubled since I have to stay for much longer until the rain stops.
As soon as she finally gave my phone to me, I quickly noticed the messages Vanessa sent me on the lock screen. My eyes widened at the four messages she sent me as I opened the app and read it thoroughly.
Vanessa | 4:00 pm
Ethan, where the hell are you?Vanessa | 4:01 pm
There was this girl who answered my call and she told me that you were chased by a dog! Is that true?Vanessa | 4:01 pm
Ethan, where are you? Have you seen my messages yet?Vanessa | 4:02 pm
Ethan, I know that I'm a bit annoying but you have to answer my messages, sweetheart. I love you too much to let you wander off on your own. There weren't any words coming out of my mouth right now. I was sure that Claire already knows who Vanessa was. Only four words were on my mind right now.
I am in trouble.
She answered Vanessa's call. But, I don't know which was worse. The fact that Claire knew and she won't befriend me since I have a girlfriend or the fact that Vanessa's going to kill me.
"C-Claire—" I couldn't help but stutter in my words. She just stood there, looking at me before gazing at the phone.
There was a bored expression plastered on her face when I called out her name. "I already gave you your phone, Ethan."
When I wanted to talk to her more, she walked away from me and then handed me a towel to use. I just thanked her and used the towel to dry my hair. I didn't expect it to be heavy rain.
As soon as she did, my head wanders. What did Claire say that made Vanessa very infuriated? Did I somehow make her feel like she was being cheated on? I want to know but at the same time, I was scared.
Claire kept on grabbing some stuff and also brought a heater before sitting next to me on the sofa. Such bad luck we have.
I then couldn't help but glance back in her direction, "Look, I'm sorry Claire. Because of me, you got wet in the rain too. I should have just left my cell phone."
"It's my fault as well. I should've given you your cell phone earlier. You shouldn't have been caught up in the rain like that, " she answered back then suddenly stood up.
I watched her as she went to the kitchen to prepare hot chocolate. When she turned back to look at me, I avoided her gaze and pretended to be watching tv.
Even if the channel is full of cartoons.
There was no certainty that she saw me. If she did, that would really be awkward.
When I glanced back, I saw her mixing hot chocolate and adding some marshmallows. I know it's not Christmas yet but at least the hot chocolate will be delicious, right?
Suddenly, she came back and gave me my own hot chocolate while holding another hot chocolate in one hand.
"Thanks, Claire." I quickly took a sip of my drink. She gave me a nod and smiled.
"I really shouldn't help you. I feel sorry for your girlfriend," she mumbled to herself and drank.
She thought that she was being too quiet. She thought wrong.
I turned to face her, putting down the mug of hot chocolate on the table. She then raised her eyebrows when she saw me staring at her. I want to confront her about the call and what she said to Vanessa.
"Girlfriend?" I frowned once I saw her cross her arms.
"I really thought it was your bodyguard at first. She seems capable in that position," she replied as I couldn't help but pursed my lips.
Suddenly, my phone rang and I saw Vanessa calling.
Claire looked at me and nodded. I suddenly picked up my phone and ended the call. The expression on Claire's face was quite amusing. She was confused and at the same time shocked.
"Don't worry, it's just a friend." I smiled at her.
Knowing too well that she knew I was lying, I tried to change the topic. I don't want her to hear my and my girlfriend's conversation. Certainly, not in her house. That would be rude.
Even if I did step out for a while, I know that most girls would be too curious. I'm not even sure if Claire could eavesdrop on us anytime.
"Anyways, are you going to watch a basketball match on Friday? I mean, if you're interested and you have time, are you going to watch?" I asked her before sipping my drink.
Before she could answer me, I suddenly choked. Damn, this is fvcking embarrassing. There was nothing I could do but cough really loud and try to smack my chest to feel better.
"Ethan? Hey! Are you okay?" I suddenly saw Claire standing up I just waved my hand at her. I know that this isn't really something serious and it would go away for a while.
When it did, I couldn't help but let out a remark, "I felt like dying."
To my surprise, my eyes widened when she pinched my cheek really hard.
"Ouch! That hurts, Claire!" Swatting her hand away, she then laughed and shook her head at me. I guess she knew that I was overreacting too much.
"You choked but you won't die, drama queen," she said to me once before she burst out laughing.
Raising an eyebrow at her, I told her, "It's still a possibility, you know."
Knowing that the rain would not stop soon, I decided to take my time with my hot chocolate.
