The rain didn't stop even for a second. It even became stronger than it was earlier.

Claire and I had decided to watch a movie as we wait for it to stop. She even grabbed a popcorn bowl and decided to make some as I grabbed some soda and chips from her fridge.

When we finally settled back on the sofa, my phone rang and I decided to keep on ending the call.

I don't want to talk to Vanessa right now. I know she'll keep on scolding me as if I was a child.

As soon as I said that, my phone rang again.

In my anger, I accepted the call and then apologized to Claire. Walking out for a moment, I answered the phone call with a frustrated sigh.

"Look, love, I'm dining with a friend. Can you call me later?" I tried being sweet since I know that retaliating back at her would make the situation worse.

"Love? Why, Ethan, I didn't know you liked me," Benedict said to me with a loud laugh.

Damn, it's Benedict. One of my teammates in the Basketball League. This day is really getting on my nerve. It was as if life was still punishing me for all the things that I'd done.

"Benz, sorry-" I tried to apologize but then it went straight out when I heard him trying to hold his laugh.

"I love you too, Ethan. You should've just told me you like me," he teased me on the other line. I almost facepalmed at that point. Why didn't I just let him speak up first before even calling him that?

"I'm really sorry, Benz. I thought you were my girlfriend because she always calls me and I'm currently in big trouble," I explained to him. He couldn't hold it anymore. There was a loud laugh as soon as I tried so hard for him to understand.

"So, you thought I was your girlfriend? Next time, look at the Caller's ID, alright? Maybe one of our teammates would call. Don't say 'Love' to them. " He kept on teasing me and there was no way out of this. I just stood there, cheeks flushed red and almost wanted to run away from that spot.

"Or maybe you can tell that to our coach. You will lose the Basketball League in no time if you tell him that," he added, which even deepened my embarrassment.

"I don't think that will happen," I told him with a snort, trying to hide my emotions right now.

Benedict then coughed, changing the topic. "How's it going with Claire though? Talked to her yet?"

"Let's not jump to that," I said to him as he fell silent on the other line.

"Is that jealousy I hear?"

"Jealous? Why would I be?"

"By the way, you're going to attend our basketball match, aren't you?" he asked me so we could both continue the conversation. I guess he knew I was being annoyed by the question he threw at me.

"Of course."

"Please tell Claire to invite Samantha to the game. She might be a good luck charm for me and the team."

"All right, man. I'll tell her. I didn't know you were that fast," I said as he laughed at me on the other line. Judging by how he laughs differently, I knew he was getting shy already.

"Stop teasing." I teased him a bit more before I ended the call.

When I got back inside, Claire was washing the bowls and mugs we had used. Maybe she hadn't done the dishes yet when the dog chased me earlier. I smiled again once I approached her.

"Claire, can you go to our match? Invite your best friend over too?" I asked her as she looked at me, confused.

"With Sam? Why?"

"Because I asked?"

"No," she replied as I stood there, silently disappointed.

She declined. Did I hear right? A 'No' from Claire? No, I might just be a little deaf.

"What do you mean? Why 'No' Claire? Is there something wrong?" She shook her head and decided to put down the dishes that she had been washing.

She faced me with a smile on her face as she dried her hands with a towel. "No, Ethan. I can't watch it. I was there but for other reasons. "

She then took the plates and mugs she had washed and dried them on the racks first.

I was just stunned. I have to convince her somehow to go and watch the match even for a split second. Benedict needs Sam to be there.

"Okay, so Benedict said--" I told her. But before I could finish what I was about to say, Claire suddenly interrupted me.

"Benedict Guitterez? As in the basketball player? " she asked me with a smile.

Wait, how does she know Benedict?

Maybe Claire saw my questioning gaze so she suddenly smiled.

She gave me a tap on the shoulder as if she already agrees with what I told her.

"I'm just asking if it's Benedict because Sam is so excited to see him, " she told me and laughed at the same time. "Because Sam said she was going to cheer for the Basketball Match."

At the same time, I smile and nod at the same time. I thought she liked Benedict.

So, wait. Does Samantha like Benedict? If she does, then I am a matchmaker for sure.

"Anyways, Benedict wants Sam to attend the Basketball Match. He said he wants her to be the good luck charm for the game, "I told her before going back to the living room and deciding to sit on the sofa.

Claire just followed and turned off the TV at the same time. She then smiled at me while sitting on the other end of the sofa.

I was about to relax more but I suddenly heard a car parked outside the gate.

"Claire!" A woman's voice made Claire's eyes widen at me.

Sh*t.
