I was frozen right on that spot. There was no way that it was true.

Ethan had always avoided Vanessa and he seems to be trying to break their bond. From the messages, the party. He even tried to tell her to back off at the victory party.

But now, he's with her? I could never imagine that to happen. I didn't want to believe it at first but Ray's amused look made me ponder otherwise.

"Don't tell me that you didn't know? She was his first love, after all."

Those words tear my heart into two. He never told me that he loved her. A childhood best friend was what he always described to her.

If he really did go back to her, then what am I to him exactly?

Just a girl who could make him forget those painful memories?

No, it can't be.

Ray probably noticed how I deeply thought about the situation and decided to add more details.

"Well, if you really want to know the truth, I'll tell. Though, I hope that you won't be affected too much, "he said before he continued.

"Ethan and Vanessa are both going to the States. They planned to fix their relationship and their parents agreed to help them set up their romantic date. "

When he said that, my heart suddenly stopped. No, that's not true. Right?

I immediately saw Benedict going back, trying to struggle with Sam's grip as I stood there in front of Ray, almost crying. He probably overheard the conversation.

"Claire, that's not true! Don't believe him. Ethan loves you! He would never cheat on you!" Benedict shouted at me as I shook my head, putting my hands on my ears — not wanting to hear any more lies.

Ray, on the other hand, noticed my expression immediately so he approached me.

"They already arrived there yesterday. There's a four-hour difference from here to there," he replied to me before showing a text from Vanessa that she was with Ethan and a picture of Ethan sleeping on the plane and Vanessa holding his hands on the photo.

She seems really happy.

I knew that Ethan was the type of guy who would stay silent if he didn't want to get caught. So, that's when I realized, Ray was telling the truth. He didn't leave a single message for me. I turned my back from Ray, not wanting to see any more proof that he had.

That picture was enough anyway.

"I'm sorry that you had to find it out like this, Claire." I paid no mind to what he was about to say and decided to walk away without saying goodbye. If I see that picture one more time, I won't be able to hold my tears anymore.

Benedict couldn't help but try to call out my name as I went back inside my house. I wasn't really in the mood to talk to anyone. Is this how it feels like to be played by someone?

Your feelings were treated like a porcelain doll.

Handled with care at first before leaving them for a new one.

Sam rushed back in, holding me as I almost fell down on my knees. I felt like I couldn't stand anymore. It's a foreign feeling for me. My first relationship was a mess.

"Claire," Sam called out my name as I only stared at the floor. She tried to shake me but I only pushed her hand away. "Don't let his words get to you. I'm sure Ethan loves you."

"Vanessa's with him," I replied, not having the energy to even message or call him again. Throwing my phone right on the sofa, I decided to sit down and try to forget what Ray had told me about by using my phone.

No, I need to know it from Ethan himself.

That way, I can really have closure if it's true.

Checking the emails that I have, I was quite surprised by what I saw. This wasn't an ordinary email from websites that I checked. When Sam saw my furrowed brows and that silence had filled the air, she didn't hesitate to sit right next to me.

"What is it? Did he call you?" Sam took a bit of a peek at the message I received and immediately gasped. She tried to double-take but when she realized that it was real, she gave me a hug.

It was an email from a school that I had tried for the student exchange program. Since the second semester wasn't really going in yet, my aunt told me that trying a student exchange program would possibly be a good idea for me to study at the same time travel on my own.

She knew that it was an opportunity that I have been dreaming of since I was still a child. My aunt wasn't strict this time, unlike the first time my parents left me in her care.

She only gets strict when it comes to letting me wander off somewhere without inviting Sam along --- since she wasn't able to monitor my actions then.

The only reason I know why she agreed on the exchange program was that my cousin was also studying in the States.

However, Sierra and I weren't really that close.

Looking back at Sam, I gave her a small smile. This day may not have happened as I wanted it to but I guess one good news is enough for me.
