CHAPTER TEN: Unexpected Messages

I DID NOT EXPECT HER TO SNAP BACK AT ME.

When I saw her getting furious with me, I couldn't help but grin. I didn't really expect a girl to reply back at me like that. Most girls at our university respect me. Since I was previously called the MVP of the Basketball Team, almost all the students at the university knew who I was.

Even newcomers already recognize who I am. It was just weird to know that she doesn't actually know me. Everyone greets me with respect.

All except her.

Well, maybe I was too confident in myself.

So all I did was walk away to avoid being confronted when she noticed me looking at her.

I just put both of my hands in my pocket and then went to my next class. While doing that, I immediately felt my cell phone vibrate in one of my back pockets.

I picked it up and looked closely at who was bothering me this morning.

Damn, it's my girlfriend. And she just texted me, again.

I can't just ignore her. Heck, I don't want my life to be messed up again with her complaining to my parents.

After all, we do look like we're an actual couple. I can't just say no. My parents are my enemies if ever I don't agree to make Vanessa my girlfriend.

Looking at my phone, I can't help but sigh. I couldn't do anything but answer her message. She'd be mad if I ignore her completely.

Love, I already sent you so many messages. Where the hell are you? Why aren't you replying? How's your vacation? When are you coming back here to the States? I thought you'd be here already, you know? I heard from Yen that you're still with her. I hope to hear from you soon. I miss you, love!

When I read her message, even if I forced myself to smile, I can't help but feel the emptiness in my heart. I forgot the fact that I told her that I was here for vacation purposes only. I didn't tell her that I would study here.

Damn it. Now, she's worried and she'll probably start another dramatic scene for my family. Maybe this time, she'll tell my parents that I'm secretly hiding something from her.

What could be a good reason for her to believe in?

When she finds out that I enrolled myself here in the Philippines, I am sure she'd freak out and follow me.

I don't know how crazy this woman is. She's acting out as if she's already my wife. How can I escape this without her getting angry and making a mess of my life?

Just holding on tightly to my phone, I started typing. I can't escape her that easily. So, I had to create a believable lie for her to stay there in America.

Yes, Vanessa. Sorry if I disregarded your messages for a while. I was busy these past few days. But still, here I am, missing you. It's going to take me a long time before I can come back home. I really love going back to my hometown. Though, can I stay here for a while? I still have some unfinished business here.

Oh, who the hell am I kidding? I don't literally like her.

I was just forced to like somebody like her. Just because our parents wanted us to stay together, I obeyed.

But do I really need to show the only plasticity just to make my life better? And that's the phrase I came up with? Hilarious.

Missing you? I don't even miss her. She's absolutely annoying!

But why can't I hurt her? Why is my heart like this? She is just my friend and I treat him like a younger sister but I don't want to hurt her feelings.

But, it was not love. No, not even close. Heck, I really don't like her.

When will I be brave enough to tell her that she is not the woman I dreamed of? Damn it, this was difficult. And telling her that I don't love her was like a death sentence.

My heart beats fast as soon as I saw her reply. I never thought she would read it right away. To be honest, I didn't expect her to reply that quickly - considering that she was still in America.

Does this girl even do anything other than watch over me?

I'm not a kid anymore. I have my own decision and I also have my own 'private space'. Besides, she's not my mother to find out what I always do in my life.

Though, it's such a shame that I can't visit you. It must've improved a lot there. Much more beautiful than the last time, I presume? Also, I don't want any girls to hover around you. That's my position and I'm going to keep it that way. I'm your girlfriend, I should be the only one in your heart. Nobody else should take my own spot.

No, I will see you soon. I just have to take some of my subjects seriously. And once I finish all of it, I'll try to buy a plane ticket to the Philippines. That way, I won't worry myself over you.

When I saw his successive messages to me, my eyes and palms immediately widened when my phone fell off. He really does not lose his attention on me. He always knows my every move.

How the hell am I going to tell her that I don't need her to dictate my life?

I just sighed before typing an answer back to her. Hopefully, this would give her a hint.

Listen to me, love. You don't need to come. I just need an extension on my vacation, that's all. Nothing more, okay? I do hope that you'll understand. It's just for a few months. I still need to renew my passport, you know?

Okay, that was a lie.

I really don't need to change my passport because it's still valid for a long time. I have been using it for almost a few years but Vanessa didn't know that.

When I felt my phone vibrate again, I expected Vanessa to answer me. But, I was surprised when Benedict was the one who messaged me.
