Chapter 48
Third person's POV
Everyone's attention was on the hazel eyed man lying on the ground. "Call the fucking ambulance and Matthew here." Julian yelled as he rushed to his brother's side. "You all, hold him." He said to his men as they aimed at Nikolai. "Jule" James called out, his chest was painfully tight due to the sight in front of him. "He is on our side, James." He said as he tapped Enzo's cheek, preventing him from closing his eyes.
"Isn't it a pleasant sight to see, blood killing blood." Nikolai snarled with a cunning smirk in his face. Dylan's face was pale as a ghost, his breath stuck in his throat. "Call the ambulance." James ordered his men as he went beside his brother. "Hey, Enzo." Jem said cupping his face. "Stay with us." He said softly as he tapped his cheek along with Jule.
"The Russian's are gone." Enzo croaked out, blood spilling out of his mouth as he spoke. "Dad- Dad will be-" He spoke in a soft voice and coughed out blood. "Dad will be happy." His voice cracked under both pain and emotion. "Enzo, the ambulance is almost here, stay with me." James hurriedly spoke and took his hands into his. Thousands of memories rushed into Enzo's mind.
These were the hands which held him as he took his first steps. The hands that guided him to class on first day of school. The hands which were always there for him. He wasn't afraid of dead, but when he was seconds away from it, it hurt like hell. Letting go always hurt like hell.
Dylan slowly made his way to Enzo and hesitantly placed his hand on Enzo's shoulder. He met those hazel eyes. He had seen those with childish innocents, filled with bashfulness. He had seen them change and mature, and now he is them filled with uncontrollable pain, the pain he caused.
"Dylan, your my brother." Enzo said with a smile. "Don't blame yourself." Enzo's voice cracked. "Please." He added with a small laugh, which caused him more pain. "Enzo, please just stay alive." Dylan said softly. "The ambulance will be here in seconds." He said and on cue, the sirens could be heard.
The halls were cleared, bodies taken to god knows where. Nikolai stood silently watching the scene enfold. It hurt to see how he had broken a happy family, he knew he was going to die. But he was happy, happy that he had his revenge. Not for his father, he was more than happy that the bastard died. He took revenge for his mother, brother, and wife. It was believed that his mother died due to childbirth. Lies. He was there when the Italian creeped into the hospital room late night, slashing her throat as she screamed for help. He was there in that room when their leader choaked his newborn brother to died. His loud screams send shivers down his spine, haunted his dreams till this day.
But he didn't do anything. He couldn't. They had paralyzed him, making him watch his worst nightmare as if it was movie. His father had just brushed this off in order to protect his identity. He erased the remaining proof of his brother.
Nikolai bared that pain, for years. It eased up when he met his wife, she eased it for him. He felt that everything was perfect when his daughter was born. They were a small happy family. But the Italians had to ruin it. They killed his wife, his savior, his love.
So, he sought out fore revenge, he wanted to break the Italians for all the crimes they had done to him. Now when everything had worked out, he felt bad. He felt guilty that he destroyed and taken out the happiness of them. He went against the values his mother taught him. He became his father, the man he loathed from the bottom of his heart.
James's POV
Enzo was placed on a stretcher and carried inside the ambulance. "Jule, go with him, I'll join you." I said placing a hand on his shoulder. He nodded and got in. I turned to Dylan who was standing in the corner, guilt etched in every feature.
