I crack my eyes open as I hear my phone ringing. I sit up and fumble for it, yawning. It drops to the floor and I reach my hand to the ground and pick it up, watching it stop ringing before I can answer it. I go to sit it down and it begins to ring again. I sit up wide awake and answer it.
"Agent Boothe." I state my name.
The voice on the other line is my co-worker, Jane, "Boothe, you need to get down here."
"Where?" I stand and pull on the nearest pair of jeans.
"567 North J. Street."
"I'm getting dressed now. Wanna break down the situation?" I pull on a shirt and then a jacket.
She paused, "Your just gonna have to see this."
I head out the door as fast as I can and get into my car, driving to the place she was talking about and I see the flashing light from down the block. I pull in beside a cop car and get out.
"Sir, you can't-"
I show my badge to the cop quickly and push past him, running into Jane. She looked flustered and sick and I steadied her and looked down at her. She leads me into the bedroom to her right and I nearly get knocked back by the sight. There is blood everywhere and a young girl is laying on her bed soaked in it. I get closer and see the wounds. There is a bruise around her neck, the shape of hands and a slash where someone had sliced her throat. I gagged and took in a deep breath. I looked closer and saw another mark, in her sternum. My eyes widened and I put on some gloves, bending over and touching the stab wound in her sternum.
"This is the same stab wound as the one on our last victim, Jane." I looked over at her.
She examined it and nodded, "Your right. I think we're dealing with something big."
I sighed and took off the gloves, "So do I."
I made my way into the living room and spotted the victims parents and the mother was crying excessively. She was the one who found her daughters body. Poor soul.
"Mrs..." I looked at a mantle that said Higgins, "Higgins, can I have a word with you?"
She sobbed and looked up, "Y- Yeah."
I led her into the next room and sat down, "Can you tell me what happened?"
She started to sob harder, "Well, she came home after a fight and I let Percy put her to bed. He left in a hurry so I decided to keep an eye on her. She- she was being really silent so after around thirty minutes I went in to make sure she was okay and.. and.." she broke off.
I looked down and frowned, "You said she got into a fight?"
The mom looked up and her eyes widened, "She said... she said Hazel-"
My eyes narrowed, "Johnson. Thank you, Mrs. Higgins. I'm sorry for your loss."
