I followed April and Hazel into the front yard. I looked Hazel up and down. She was just as beautiful as the last time I saw her. My head drifted back to that night.

I slept in my bed comfortably but began to hear a sound at my window. I sat up and looked at it. I watched as a small pebble hit my window. I got up and opened my window looking out.

Hazel stood there with a pebble in her hand, poised to throw.

I frowned, "Hazel Joy, what-"

"Romeo, let down your hair and go on a stroll with me." She smiled.

I laughed, "First, Rapunzel and Romeo and Juliet had nothing to do with each other. Second, yes I will."

"Climb down your vine!" She spoke in an imitation of Romeo and I laughed.

"If I had one. Alas, I will climb down my stairway and out my front door."

She smiled and ran ahead to my front porch. I smiled as I watched her long, black hair dissapear into the dark. I turned around and made my way down the stairs. As I my foot struck the hard, brown wood of my staircase, my mom cracked her door open.

"Nicholas? What are you doing up at this time of night?" She looked suspicious.

I coughed into my elbow nervously, "Just thirsty, Mom."

Her eyes narrowed, "You have a bathroom."

"Theres no cups." I smiled.

She sighed, "Tell her I said hi."

"I don't have the slightest clue what you mean." I smiled, but my eyes told her I understood.

I went down the stairs two at a time with a big grin on my face. Just to ease Mom's mind, I grabbed a glass of water before heading outside to the front porch. I closed the screen door and turned around.

"Good afternoon, Clarisse." She smiled slowly and flipped her long, black hair over her shoulder.

I snickered, "Silence of the Lambs doesn't tie into your visit either. Whats up, babe?"

Her face suddenly fell a little, but she pulled back her lips into a smile, "I just wanted to see you."

I wrapped my arm around her as she scooted up to me, "At three-thirty in the morning?"

"Er, yeah! I wanted to surprise you!" She seemed stiff.

I sighed, "You know, after as long as we have been together, you would think you wouldn't hide things from me."

She gulped, "Okay, I have been meaning to tell you... Mom got another job somewhere."

"Oh cool! Whats so bad about that?" I felt happy for her.

"Er, Mom and I are moving." Her cheeks flushed a bright red and she ducked her head.

My happiness popped like an over swollen balloon. I looked down at her and couldn't find a thing to say about what she was telling me.

"Nick, listen, since I am moving I just think it would be better-"

I felt shock hit me, "Don't say it."

"Nick, we need to just be friends..."

"No..."

"It would just be too hard to stay in a relationship..." Her face was getting redder by the second.

I felt bewildered, "Where are you moving?"

"Hampton."

"That's only three hours! Why do you have to leave me because of a three hour move! That's not that much!"

"Mom says there could be a lot of interference with a long distanc-"

"Your mom is only saying that because her own long distance relationship failed!"

Her eyes widened, "NICK! I'm sorry your upset, but you can't be mad!"

"Why!" I stood and knocked her hand aside as she tried to touch my arm.

Before she could even speak another word I told her to leave and went inside. I was a mess. I stumbled to my room trying not to cry, but even thought I'm a man, getting my heart broken hurts all the same. It probably hurt more.

I looked at her now and I watched as she smiled and tucked her hair behind her ears. She looked so much happier. So much healthier. Maybe her leaving me wasn't so bad.

"Don't you think so, Nick?" April waved her hand in my face.

I focused my attention back to them, "I'm sorry?"

April laughed, "Of course, you zoned out!"

Just then a light blue car swerved around a dog and stopped with a loud skid. We jumped up ready to go see what was wrong, but the people had already drove off.
