The night was dawning on and so far we hadn't gotten anything from the people we had interrogated other than Hazel, Nick, and April. Jones was very certain that Nick could have committed the murder but as I watched him talk it was certain to me that he wouldn't. Another teen sat in front of me and I could feel my annoyance building up due to my tiredness.

"Your name is," I looked down at the file in front of me, "Nathan Smith?"

The young teen looked at me with scared blue eyes, "Yes, Sir."

"I'm gonna call you Nate. Where were you last night?" I saw his eyes dart up at me quickly.

He frowned, "At home."

"Really? A few people told me you were at Joey Bradshaw's party last night." I stared at him.

He tapped his hand repeatedly on the table, "Okay, yeah, I was."

"Why did you lie?"

"I wasn't suppose to be out. I snuck out my window..."

"Your mother isn't in here."

"I know."

I pulled out a paper and sighed to myself, "A couple people reported to me that you and Joey were in consistent fights all night."

Nate paused, "He was going on about one of my friends, Hazel, and how he was going to nail her."

"Bad thing?"

"It would cause conflict between her ex and Joey."

"Her ex Nick Davidson?"

"Yeah..."

"It says," I read a few lines, "you ane Joey actually got into a physical confrontation."

"A what?" His eyes filled with confusion.

Man this kid was dumb, "A fight."

He leaned back in the metal chair, "Oh yeah. He said a couple times he would rape Hazel so everytime he made that threat I punched him or drug him to the ground."

"Hazel Johnson must be pretty important huh?" I leaned back, crossing my arms.

"Are you kidding me? Hazel was the head cheerleader when she went to school here. She was in student council, donated her blood every year, and even helped out the teachers during her free periods. Hazel was popular. Everyone knew her and everyone loved her. Especially Nick." His eyes were determined. He was telling the truth.

I wrote notes down quickly, "That means anyone would be willing to protect her, huh?"

"Oh yeah."

"Shes protected enough that it could lead to killing?"

He froze, "I... I'm not certain."

I looked him over for a second and then sighed and shuffled my paperwork up, "You may go."

I left the room and sat down at my temporary desk. Jones walked over and sat on the edge of the desk, her eyes shifting from my pants to my face. I was tired of her checking me out. It was awkward.

"Hello Scarlet." I barely looked up from the file.

She narrowed her eyes, "Any leads?"

"No one really fits. All I got was people are very protective over Hazel Johnson."

"Protective enough to kill someone threatening her?" Her eyes brightened.

I shrugged, "Maybe. From what I was told, shes pretty popular with everyone."

"Well thats a lead. At least we know it was someone who was either protecting Hazel Johnson or becoming extremely jealous."

"I'm leaning towards the protective side." I gathered my things and moved away from her hand as it stretched out at me.

I narrowed my eyes, "Goodnight, Scarlet."
