Chapter 32

*Derek's POV*

I was worried sick, going crazy with fear. Fear of loosing Veronica forever. Work wasn't my problem anymore, Veronica was.

The security of the clan was under control, for now, since Sebastian hasn't attacked again. The first meeting was held by only the council members and the next one, the lords will be included.

The repair of my house was already under control, nearly completed. The maids and vampire guests injured, taken to the clan clinic. All I needed to complete me was Veronica, I need her and her alone.

I rushed down the hallway, towards her room. I knocked softly and opened. I looked around her empty bed, until I found her beside her closet, cuddling up like a ball.

'Was that sobs I was hearing? Why is she crying?'
I asked myself as I moved towards her and bent down to her level.

"Veronica, what's wrong?" I said in a concerned tone as I lifted her head up slowly by her chin. And suddenly she yanked my hand away. Veronica have never done that and will never do that or was it Lexis?

"Don't touch me." She cried out
Yup, definitely Veronica. Her hazel eyes filled with tears, all swollen and her nose, all red. Lexis would never cry. Why was she crying? Did she find out the truth? Did lexis tell her?

"Why are you crying?" I asked still in my bent position.

"Go met Lola and be with her! I don't deserve you, you deserve someone stronger and not a burden, like I am." She busted out with much venom in every word, which hit me where it hurts. My heart.

I can't believe she doesn't trust me or believe enough when I show that I like her this much. Scratch that...I love her. Like I'm crazy about her, if not obsessed with her.

And here she is crying her eyes out, thinking I'm cheating on her. This hurts bad. I couldn't understand myself. Why do I love her this much, to the extent I want to protect her, even if I die while doing it.

"You aren't a burden. And I told you before. I don't like Lola, I love you!" I bursted out in anger. I couldn't contain myself. I always have different mixed feelings when she is around me, and they are always to the extreme.

"That's it. You are not to love me, you are to love Lola and all this will not be happening. You would have been getting married, and I back in the human realm, and maybe found a job in one of my dream companies. But it all changed because of me. A vampire's mate. No, a vampire's human mate. Maybe it would have worked perfectly well, if you were human or I, a full vampire. I DON'T  love you, Derek!"

Key word: DON'T.

The last part hit me hard, it felt like my heart was being squeezed. One thing was sure, she didn't mean it. Her eyes twitched. Each time she lies it always does.

Why will she lie about that? Whatever is hurting her, was hurting her real bad. And I felt terrible being the cause.

"You are lying, your eyes twitched. Each time you lie, you eyes twitches." I said as I stood up and looked her straight in the eyes.

"Please go met Lola, I don't feel anything for you." Her words stung me hard.

I yanked her up and left her hands as soon as she got balance.
"Tell me one more time." I said as I lunged toward her. She kept moving backwards, until her back was against the wall.
"Say it"

"Let go" she said as she tried escaping. I used my hands to block her passage on both sides.

"Say it, if you dare." I said sternly. Trying to pull myself together, not wanting to sound broken, cause this girl just brought back bad memories. I thought I will forget complete.
