Chapter 57

~ Derek's POV~

I wiped my face from the green blood of the last monster I killed. I stank of rotten and dead animals and beasts and my body was very weak. I need blood and the journal already warned that all the beast's blood is poisonous.

I fell weak on the ground, the whole ground covered with dead beasts of different kinds everywhere, I managed to kill over a thousand throughout the night. This was the second trail, the cave of fear. I was able to complete my part and my wounds healed up slowly. I needed blood. No, I needed my mate.

My body shot up in fear, I forgot about everyone else. I couldn't feel her heartbeat. I couldn't feel anyone else and I was shaking in fear. I can't lose Veronica the same way I lost my parents, in the same mountains. My eyes were getting clouded, I wiped my face once more and kept moving forward.

"Veronica!" I screamed. My voice echoes and bounces back through the void darkness. It was barely morning, the day would break anytime soon.

"VERONICA!" I screamed through our mate link.
No answer.

I started running forward... moving a little closer so I could try sensing her, but I still couldn't. I felt Emily miles away, and I used my vampire speed to get to her. She was drowning in the lake. I dived in and scooped her in my arms.

"Don't you dare die in my arms!" I screamed at her as I shook her vigorously. Her neck breaking off was the least of my problems. She was very weak and freezing. She was out of blood. I took my wrist into my mouth and cut open my vein, pouring a little blood into her mouth.

Her eyes shut open and she jumped out of my arms.
"Derek," she said weakly.
"I'm glad I found you, where are the rest?." I said a little impatiently. My heart was pounding in fear as I could not find Veronica. I tried to shake off the negative thoughts that kept popping up.

I can't lose her.

"I don't know. She turned Lexis and ran off with vampire speed. I don't know. She was complaining about her other personalities and kept saying they were hiding something from her..." Before Emily completed her words I cut her off.

"Find Justin. And Brittany... I'm going to get my mate." I said using my authoritative tone.

"We are right here." Justin and Brittany bowed. They were scared. I'm sure my eyes were blood red and I lost control of my vampire thirst anytime I was this scared, a protective mechanism.

"Go. We will find you guys." Justin said tiredly.

Everyone was weak and we knew any step would take us to the next trial. We weren't mentally ready, but we had a goal. And for me, my strength was missing, I needed my mate. I never thought I would love like this and get so addicted. Veronica could kill me and I would feel so worthy to die in her hands, but for me to hurt her, I would rather kill myself. I was addicted, she was like my drug, and I couldn't get enough.

I ran with my vampire speed. My senses enhanced. I finally got a small faded scent of her blood. The sweet smell of strawberry and honey I could never forget. I increased my speed and I felt my strength draining even more, but I was sure as soon as I found her and held her in my arms, I would feel recharged.

Derek.

I heard her through the mind link. I heard Lexis.

I stumbled and broke down as soon as I saw her in that state. She was bleeding through her neck, she was attacked. The beast was lying lifeless beside her, she managed to kill it brutally. But that wasn't enough for me. I tore it away and shredded it open. Tearing it limb by limb.
