Third pov
Having the twins was something that turned her world around, just like with their dad.
"Phoenix Verone."
There were few people that had the guts to talk to her while she was out, partly because Enrique and Roberto were 99% of the time around and partly because people generally found her intimidating.
She didn't mind talking to people when racing, thing is-
- the race is already over, and the woman that said her name is giving her a vibe she doesn't like.
"Yes?"
"I have something for you."
The woman is blonde, dressed like she belongs on the streets of Miami with the rest of them. But her eyes. They don't belong on Phoenix's streets.
"And what's that?"
Her bodyguards are watching like hawks but not stepping up. Yet.
The blonde tosses her a phone. "There's instructions on there and two videos. I'd advice you to watch the videos first."
As soon as she is gone from sight Roberto steps closer while Enrique keeps watch.
"What is it?"
Phoenix opens the phone. "I don't know, but I'm intending to find out." She opens the gallery to see that there's indded two video. Both short according to the times.
She opens the first one and it feels like someone's ripped the rug out from under her.
It's dark, but they can still watch several masked men shooting Carter and taking the twins, leaving her husband practically for dead.
It's Roberto that opens the next video.
In it there's a blonde woman she doesn't recognize, but she seems to be trying to calm both the twins and a toddler.
"What the fuck-"
She clicked onto the instructions and she felt sick.
"You two need to go call Mariah and tell her to get to Carter. Don't argue, I'll be following this."
They didn't like it, not that she did either. But there wasn't any choice here.
Not really.
Time skip
There's this disconnect in her mind.
She can hear and see everything around her perfectly, but it feels like she's underwater. She's angry to the very core, but there's fear deep into her bones.
Carter has a chance to survive as long as they get to him.
Their kids? Her babies?
They're too little.
It's never really been a thought before, having someone in her life that can't protect themselves. Having someone completely dependant on her.
Right now, it's far from a good feeling.
"I see you made the smart choice. There's a plane that will pick you and the car up in five minutes. Just drive on as soon as you get an all clear."
The voice over the phone doesn't scare her. It pisses her off.
"I have a friend here for you to meet. I'm sure you'll be happy to see him."
There's something in her voice that sounds mocking.
It makes Phoenix rage.
The plane arrives as she said and she drives her car inside just before it takes off.
Dominic.
That's who she was talking about.
The man looks as happy as she feels. They share a look, understanding that neither had a choice in being there.
Vote and comment, it keeps me motivated :)
