Third pov

Phoenix was good at hiding worry. Something she was very thankful for.

But she had to trust that Carter was okay and safe.

She wasn't allowed to walk much for the next few days so she was stuck in a wheelchair for the time being. She smiled when she saw the rest of the team. "Hi guys."

The others displayed various reactions to her beat up apperance but still greeted her.

"Damn girl, you okay?" Roman asked in his usual way, though it was obvious he's concerned.

"Kinda. The bomb threw me quite a bit away and landing on asphalt didn't make it much better." She winced as she shrugged. "Can someone catch me up on what the plan is for this?"

Brian was the one to tell her about the plan to get a hacker named Ramsey out of some bad guys clutches. Phoenix frowned. "Considering the state i am in and the fact that it's gonna take time before I'm up on my feet, i won't be able to help with that."

She thought for a moment. "But i have connections i can use to keep an eye on the underworld for you." She thought of contacting Carter but didn't say it out loud.

"That would be great. Then you can keep an eye on if Jakande and Deckard are moving." Mr Nobody commented.

Phoenix nodded. "I will. But after this, I'm sorry, but i don't think i can take being involved in these things anymore. I'm obviously a danger magnet, and i can only get so far before i get injured beyond my ability to recover." She thought back to the last two times she got shot.

"We understand. You don't need to be sorry." Tej put a hand on her shoulder and gave an understanding nod.

Brian and the others nodded in agreement.

Time skip

Phoenix was given a room and anything she needed to be able to do what she agreed to do.

Her phone was one of her only things that they had been able to pick up along with her since she'd had it on her.

She nearly jumped out of her chair when it started ringing.

She pressed answer to the unknown caller and an older, female voice could be heard on the other side. "I never imagined this would be how my first talk with you would go, but Carter insisted i called."

Phoenix made sure her door was closed. "Mariah Verone? Wait, Carter is with you? How is he?"

"Calm down. Yes my son is with me. High on the pain meds and a burn covering most of his back but he'll be fine." A pause. "I never imagined that he would marry anyone but he must truly love you. He's been continuously asking if you're alright."

Phoenix was relieved. Carter was at least mostly fine, she just wished she was there to help. And now she was talking to her mother-in-law. "I can't come to him before this is over."

The voice chuckled. "Of course you can't. But as soon as it's over, you will be here." She hung up.

Phoenix sighed. Her husband would ve fine. Not that that made her worry less.

A knock came from the door and Tej and Brian entered with some food for them.
