"Babe. Where are you?" Jace, My boyfriend of three years, or fiancée as of the last seven months, calls out as he comes through the front door.

"In the kitchen plating dinner up, where else would I be?" I shout.

It's seven o'clock. He's just finished work and likes to have his dinner as soon as he gets in, so I make sure it's ready. He knows exactly where I am.

He comes barrelling into the kitchen, excitement written all over his face.

"What is it?" I ask with a smile, as he hugs me, squeezing my shoulders a little too tightly, and kisses me. He's bursting to tell me something.

"You'll never guess? Go on, guess." He practically squeals.

"I don't know, babe. What?" I laugh.

"Don't laugh at me, Lou!" He snaps, with a scowl on his face.

I'm taken aback by his behaviour. He's been doing this sort of thing more and more, and I've just been putting it down to the stress he's been under at work. He's been working so hard to get this promotion, and he won't tell me about it unless he gets it. Maybe this is why he's so excited.

And I hate that he calls me Lou, but he decided he didn't like my first name, so he went with my middle name.

Shaking his head, his excited smile back in place, "I got the promotion! They want me to head the company. We're moving!" he exclaims. Picking me up and spinning me around in the small space of the kitchen.

"Congratulations, babe. I'm happy for you." I say once he sets me down. I brush a kiss over his lips and walk around the table to finish plating up. "What does this entail? Where are we moving to?" I ask curiously.

We're engaged so I'll go with him, but I presumed that us moving would be a joint decision. I hope it's not too far as I don't see a lot of my family as it is, with him taking up all my time when I'm not working or saying he's tired, busy or some other excuse that leaves me feeling too guilty to go to family gatherings. So seeing them has gotten less and less.

I was close with my mum Rhonnie and three brothers Jordie-lee, Dazz and Ryker, but I haven't seen or spoken to them in months. I get the odd text asking how I am and if I want to meet up, but I'm always exhausted or too busy and forget to text them back to say 'sorry, but I can't. I'm too busy.' I've never been too busy for my family before.

"Well, a house comes with the job. I've got all the legal documents for us both sorted already and-"

"Wait, what legal documents? What do we-"

"Don't fucking interrupt me and I'll tell you!" He snaps.

"Sorry" I mumble, stopping my questioning as I know he will be upset if I'm not as happy as he is.

"We're moving to El Paso! So start packing, we leave in four days!" He exclaims. I blink, not quite sure I heard him right.

"El Paso, Texas? As in America? And... And... four days?!" I ask, in stunned disbelief.

"Fuck me, Lou. Is there another El Paso I don't know about? Yes, fucking America.... I thought you'd be happy! I'm doing it for us. Somewhere we can start our life together. We can get married after I settle in at the new branch. So I thought the sooner the better!" He fumed, opening and then slamming the fridge shut. "Now you've fucking pissed me off. Is dinner ready?"

"I was only asking, Jay. I am hap-"

"Don't fucking call me Jay! You know I hate it. I'm gonna work in my office, you can serve me my dinner there." He walks off and punches the wall making me jump. I don't get why he's so angry.
