+*+*+Kakashi watched with a blank face as Rin and Naruto chatted amicably in front of him, the former sipping on some herbal tea because "herbal tea is very important for the wellbeing of your immune system, and can also alleviate tension and stress", and the latter was bringing up another wave of miso ramen to her mouth, her eyes shining as she munched on the steaming meal because "ramen is the food of the gods, dattebayo". He thought both of those things were up for debate when vegetables like eggplant existed, but he doubted that would hold up against them.
They were seated at a side booth next to the bar (which - Kakashi wasn't sure if it was actually legal but Naruto had stated that since they were old enough to kill, they were old enough to sit at the place where people drank without drinking) (Kakashi found he could not argue with that logic) while Shibi Aburame and Choza Akimichi took care of the guarding for today's session of the peace treaty.
Secretly, Kakashi wished they would go home. He would never outwardly complain about a mission, because he was a jonin. But ever since their sensei had dragged a delirious and completely battered Naruto out of the riptide onto the wintry beaches of Yukigakure, he had wanted the mission to wrap up.
Yukigakure was a few days run from Konoha, and he understood the importance of peace negotiating, but that didn't make it any less boring to do.
It also made it dangerous.
He hadn't liked how those Kumo nin had singled out Naruto. As a Shinobi, one of the first things he had learned was that you shouldn't trust anyone - and that definitely included nin that you were barely on cordial terms with.
Plus, if he wasn't involved in the actual fighting aspect, then what was the point?
Kakashi stared at his own untouched breakfast, the miso soup cooling as the time passed. As he watched Naruto take another heaping bite of her ramen, he pushed his soup to the side.
"So what are we doing today?" Naruto asked around a mouthful, surveying her teammates' faces. "We technically have a free day with Minato being stuck in those boring meetings, and those other two ninja guarding."
"Nothing," Kakashi said. "Even if we aren't on call, we're still on a mission, still on duty. We have to be available in case of anything. That's Shinobi protocol."
Rin pouted, her chocolate eyes swimming. "We're not going to do anything we can't stop if we need to, you know? We can have some fun today. And sensei hasn't even left for the meetings, yet."
"Yeah, Kakashi-kun," Naruto kicked his leg under the table, and Kakashi briefly pondered why he had let the girls drag him out of their quiet and people-less room. Although he wasn't sure if anything could truly be quiet if Naruto was involved. "Maybe you should try and loosen up a bit, datte- OH WHAT THE FUCK!" Naruto hollered suddenly, standing up, ramen sloshing over the edges of the bowl.
Kakashi immediately turned around and tried assessing for a threat but didn't see anything that screamed of danger. He saw Minato strode into the room with a brunette and a white-head on his tail.
He turned back to his blonde teammate who was pointing furiously at them. "BACK UP MISUMI, HAYAMI!" The silver haired jonin had no idea who Misumi and Hayami were, but he did know that Naruto was causing a fucking scene. Several patrons and the bartender had looked over at them.
Rin tugged on Naruto's black and orange Shinobi gear, but Naruto waved her off.
"Naruto!" Rin whisper-yelled, trying to get her attention. "Sit down!"
The blonde girl ignored Rin and moved out of the booth until she was striding up to their sensei and the two woman who looked they had ate something terrible when they saw her. Kakashi watched in interest as Naruto grabbed Minato's arm, pulling him behind her as though she were protecting him.
