[BELLA LEDFORD]
Seattle, Washington˚*•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚
Who knew that a bus on fire could traumatise someone? Who knew that it could leave someone feeling so shocked? Who knew that coming to work would mean watching a friend feeling more than comfortable with sacrificing their life to save strangers?
Bella Ledford did not.
In fact, she had no idea what she knew.
Okay. One thing. She knew one thing. Pain. Seering pain. Shot from her wrist up to her elbow. When Torres yanked her back and they fell, Bella landed on the concrete with her left arm curled beneath her body. It tore a hole into her coat and slashed up her skin as she unluckily landed on something hard and sharp. Perhaps a small rock, plastic bits that people throw away because finding a bin for their rubbish is too much work.
On top of that, throbbing pain entertained her brain for a while, so she could switch between focusing on her arm and her head.
"I can't even begin to imagine what drove you to do something so incredibly reckless," Torres sounded like she had some sort of personal connection to Bella as she voiced her disbelief, continuing to take care of her injuries. First, she checked Ledford for any broken bones then moved onto the cut she managed to get on the same arm.
"Are you done?" Bella's voice felt ice cold, and like a slap to the helping surgeon's cheek. Stopping in her movements, she looked up at Bella who continued to stare ahead.
"Almost," Torres replied.
"Why did you pull me back?" Bella asked because she couldn't hold the question down. It also helped to take her mind off of the pain, and the burning feeling of Torres cleaning out her wound.
"Should I have let you walk into the fire?"
"I'm asking why you didn't let me."
"You really think I hate you so much I'd let you die, huh?" from the corner of her eye, Bella noticed that Torres was looking at her, and she seemed genuinely taken aback. Bella couldn't bring herself to answer with words, so she took a deep breath and sat on the bed, looking straight ahead.
Was Jackson okay? Bella wanted to know but she entered the anger stage, and she couldn't trust herself enough to find him. Going back to the bus to save that little girl was heroic, sure, but also fucking stupid. Who in their right mind would put themselves in such danger? She wanted to smash her fist into his perfect, annoying little face.
But then she laughed. Out loud. Because Ledford herself was ready to run between the flames and rescue her stupid best friend.
"Two peas in a pod," she voiced. "You know that saying?" she asked Torres, finally breaking her stare to look at the surgeon before her.
