[BELLA LEDFORD]
Seattle, Washington˚*•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚
"Results revealed that you were four weeks along your pregnancy."
"Due to the impact of the accident, you miscarried."
"I am very sorry, Bella."
All she replied was: Okay. There was a nod somewhere after that, and a smile that kept her emotions in control. Bella lost her shit once already which was something she felt embarrassed about. Jackson still didn't ask—he didn't have the chance—but she was glad. No one at her bedside after what had happened was exactly how she imagined things to go and revealing how she believed one of her worst fears came to life made her very uncomfortable.
Grey left the room once she delivered the unexpected news. There was some mention of the resources the hospital offered to help if she needed anything but Bella knew this already.
"It was yours," she said the first thing that came to her mind. Perhaps it was obvious to Jackson but she felt like she had to clarify. The conversation about what they were to each other never came up. At the core, they were best friends. Beyond that, they never mentioned. In more ways than one, they were a couple, boyfriend and girlfriend, whatever people call each other when they are intimate.
"Are you implying it could've been someone else's?" the question sounded as unfamiliar leaving Jackson's lips as it felt for Bella to talk a second ago.
"No," she answered and they fell quiet.
How could someone mourn something they lost before they even knew they had in the first place? How could someone mourn something they never wanted then lost? The latter did not make sense to Bella. Having her own family felt out of reach all her life. The idea nestled in the back of her brain, in the smallest corner that she never touched or bothered in any way. Suddenly, she learnt she could've had the chance to focus on it but now it's all lost.
Bella Ledford pregnant.
Even the thought of it overwhelmed her.
Bella Ledford miscarried.
That's even more absurd. Especially because she didn't know. How did she not know? She spent most of her life studying about things like this. Never in great depth but she had plenty of knowledge on pregnancy. If there were signs, they all flew by her. If she felt different, she thought she chalked it up to being at home again and around her family after a long decade.
That's how she missed it.
This had nothing to do with her smarts. And with that, she realised right then and there, she couldn't have predicted she was pregnant. Bella was not the first woman to go through the first four weeks of pregnancy without noticing anything different. Those who have irregular cycles don't think much of it. Those who have regular cycles wouldn't know, either, because often times they still bleed. It's not the usual flow, it's lighter, but it's there. Without the want to get pregnant, they would never assume that's the reason behind their change in bleeding.
