Chapter 30
I smiled at the beautiful picnic that Logan had prepared. We were at the hospital at the spot near the pond. There was a small patch of grass which gave the illusion that we were at a park. Ever since that intoxicating kiss, Logan had been called on to take on more than shifts than ever. They had a shortage of doctors apparently. So, during his break, he had called me over, telling me he got a surprise.
Standing there, watching his anxious expression, I was touched that he put in alot of effort into this date eventhough he already had a lot on his plate.
“Come, sit,” he urged, gesturing to the blanket.
I sat down, tucking my legs to the side. Logan sat beside me with the picnic basket in front of us. I laughed when he opened the basket to show me what was inside. Hospital plastic cups and utensils. The food looked strangely like the ones I saw in the cafeteria.
“That’s cute,” I remarked, smiling.
Logan sighed in relief. “That’s good, I guess. I wasn’t sure how you would react to all this. I promise I will bring you out on a proper date soon.”
I reached out to squeeze his hand, getting his attention. “Logan, this is fantastic.”
His eyes gave me a questioning look.
I laughed. “Really. It’s different. I like it.”
Logan smiled and brushed a lock of my hair, his warm fingers skimming my jaw. I shivered and let myself enjoy the feeling. I still could not get the kiss out of my head. Was it wrong that I wanted him to kiss me now?
“So, what would you like to have? Beans? Fruits? Or tuna sandwich?” he asked, rubbing his hands together as he looked into the basket.
I let my body relax and take in the cool breeze. I tried to ignore the feeling of nurses, doctors and patients watching. “Is it okay to do this? Just sit here and have a picnic?”
Logan looked at me, worry creasing his brow. “What’s wrong?”
I glanced around, feeling like I’m being watched. “There are people everywhere.”
Logan scooted closer to me and wrapped his arm around my waist, pulling me to him. The feel of his warm strong chest on my back made me feel safe. “Don’t worry. No one will bother us. My shift is not soon.”
“Okay, I will just enjoy this,” I decided, smiling. “I’d like that tuna sandwich please.”
“One tuna sandwich coming up,” he said, grinning.
“So, are we going to get to know each other?” I asked, trying to ease him into the conversation before the big question.
Logan shrugged. “We’re not total strangers at least.”
“Yeah, you’re right.”
He smiled, handing me the food. “I know your favourite colour, artist, author. You love chocolates more than anything. Kayla and you are best friends. And eventhough I can’t understand why, you were close to Dave as well, in high school.”
“You know alot,” I observed, leaning away from him to watch his expression. “Speaking of Dave. How do you know each other?”
His blue eyes clouded over for a moment. “I knew I could not run from that question for long. Especially from someone as intelligent as you.”
I grinned, rolling my eyes. “Flattery is not going to earn you any points.”
Logan chuckled before his eyes turned serious. “As you know Dave took on the family business. When he did that, he also took on the business debts and all the problems that came with it. My dad wanted me to take on my family business. Storms and McOwans were always rivals. The thing is, I wanted to be a doctor. While I was helping out my dad, I did a lot of digging and found interesting things. Dave was involved in drug trafficking and was screwing around.”
