Chapter 35

I leaned back against the hard, rough surface of the tree bark. I tilted back my head back to watch the pink clouds drifting by. The sun was setting and it shot an array of beautiful colours into the sky. Another end to a day. I pulled my knees towards my chest. The beauty of nature always amazed me. Even after how hard people tried to replicate the beauty of it on paper, the real thing will always be more beautiful and breath-taking. Just like my memories Dave. The memory of having feelings for him were not as strong as actually feeling it when he was around. The sweaty palms, the racing heart, the short intake of breath. They were so much stronger.

I shook the thought away. I have been thinking of Dave so much these past few days. It was just something that he said the other day. It did not help that i have been spending my time more with him than i was with Logan. It is not his fault. He was back in New York, attending to his patients and Dave was here, handling some business and paying a little visit to me. Plus, he was my best friend. How can I not be close to him?

This was not approved of Kayla, obviously. She thinks it was not a good idea. But i told her that we were just friends. That i had no feelings for him. Oh, how wrong i was. Still, I love Logan. I really do.

I ran my fingers through my wild hair. I took a deep breath, hoping to collect my thoughts. I eyed my mobile phone. Flipping it open, i searched for Logan’s number. I pressed the call button. He picked up on the third ring.

“Evening, madam. How may i help you?” i heard him ask in a fake Indian accent.

I could imagine him smiling on the other side of the phone. He had caller ID and knew i was calling. He always impersonated someone when he answered the phone.

I laughed. “I would like a packet of curry and tandoori chicken. Personally delivered.”

He switched to his normal voice which was pretty fine with me. “I would love to go see you.”

“Then come here. Everyone misses you. My family really opens up to you,” i said, smiling. The thought of him here, in my arms, made my heart race.

“Does everyone include you?” he asked, teasing. I heard the sound of a chair squeaking on the other side. I could imagine him putting his legs on the table and leaning back.

“Especially me,” i said softly, an aching in my chest making it harder to breathe.

“I miss you too,” he said.

“It’s driving me crazy. I want you home. I want to spend all my time with you. I want to see you again. i’m lonely here even though there are a hundreds of other people in this town. I only want you,” i stated, surprised at my little rant.

I heard him laugh. “It’s home here for me, Julia. But, I promise I will come see you again. Just a few more days and i’ll be there.”

“I don’t want to wait. I want you now,” i whined.

He sighed. “I will get back as soon as i can.”

“That’s not good enough.”

“I’ll make it up to you, sweetheart. I promise.”

“Don’t blame me if you find me in another guy’s arms when you get back. It’s your entire fault for not running back home to keep this good thing going, baby,” i teased, grinning.

I heard him laugh but his tone turned serious. “Julia, I love you. I hate keeping you waiting. I really do but I will make it up to you.”

My heart squeezed at his words. “I love you too.”
