It was Christmas eve, all over New York, holiday decorations could be seen. Shop windows now had holiday decorations and kid's toys were selling at a rapid pace. Outside, snow was softly falling onto the ground, coating the city in a white glow.

However, the cold from outside could not be felt from inside Aaron's apartment, as he and Katherine lay together on the couch, the television playing a Christmas movie. Miles was lying on the floor close to them, sometimes nudging Katherine's hand and asking to be petted.

They had decided to spend the afternoon of Christmas eve together, seeing as Aaron would be heading over to see his family later on for dinner.

As her head rested on his shoulder, Katherine's hand played with his white sweater, holding it between her fingers. She could feel that his own had slipped under her sweater a few minutes ago, now tracing lines on her back.

The sound of her phone ringing brought them out of their peaceful silence. Katherine reluctantly moved away from Aaron, taking her phone in her hand and seeing that her mother was calling her. Aaron could immediately see that she seemed troubled and he sat up straight to look at her properly.

"What is it?" he asked, his hand moving to her shoulder.

"Oh, nothing" Katherine looked at him with a small frown "just evil incarnate is calling me"

"Evi-" Aaron tried to figure out what she was saying for a moment "your mother?"

"I love that you know me enough that you can tell just from my cruel nicknames" Katherine grinned.

"Shouldn't you pick up?" he asked quietly "they were coming to spend the holidays in New York right?"

Nodding her head reluctantly, Katherine headed into his room and closed the door behind her before answering the call. She could hear the sound of her mother arguing with someone on the other end of the call and she waited patiently.

"Mother?" Katherine asked after a moment of silence "hello?"

"Katherine!" her mother's voice sounded out, "I thought you weren't going to pick up"
