"Bullshit," I hissed as I threw another rock to the sea, "gusto ko lang naman matulog, Lord," I pleaded as I looked above, wait, do the stars really look beautiful like this?
My phone rang, it's Ella.
"Ells?" I asked, still looking at the stars above.
"Dennise nasan kang lupalop ng beach na 'to?! Alas tres pa lang ah!"
I frowned, minsan talaga your bestfriend acts like your mother, "I'm just outside, nagpapahangin, hindi ako makatulog."
"You want me to join you?"
"No no, go back to sleep, I can handle myself," I answered.
"Sure ka? Baka mapano ka dyan, a lot of people might be coming back to their hotels pa lang from bars."
"No worries, I'll make them eat the sand if they try to touch me."
Ella chuckled, "fine. Just call me agad if something happens."
"Sure besh, thanks for calling," I said.
"Yeah sure, make sure to come back here as a whole, bitch."
"Yes Mom!" I said then ended the call.
"If I count the stars, will I be able to sleep?" I asked myself.
"No, you'll just get frustrated," someone answered, napalingon agad ako to my left and right and found a woman sitting not so far behind me, leaning on the coconut tree, she smiled at me, "sorry."
I just nodded and smiled a bit.
"They say there are 2 reasons why people can't sleep, 1, they are in love and 2, they are lonely, so which of the two are you?" The woman asked.
I shook my head, "none. I have been having a hard time sleeping since forever," I answered.
I heard her chuckle, "that's insomnia."
"It is. And it sucks."
"Do you mind if I sit beside you?" She asked, I looked at her again.
"Just keep a 10-inch apart."
Tumawa na naman siya, "yeah, sure."
She sat beside me and did really keep that 10-inch distance. Lol.
"Ikaw? Why are you still awake?"
"I'm the number 2," she answered.
"Oh," that's all I could say.
She smiled, "did you know that if you want to travel to outer space to reach a star, it will take you light years?"
I nodded, "that's why no one ever did it."
"Besides, they're burning," she added, and we laughed.
"This is my first time seeing the stars beautiful like this," I whispered.
"Cause you're always looking down," I heard her say.
"Huh?"
She shook her head, "there are a lot of beautiful things we always miss, if only we know how to look up."
"You sound so...romantic right now."
She chuckled, "I get that a lot. Wala eh, this is the only thing I know I'm good at, words."
"I see," I answered, "are you a local here?"
She laughed, "no, bakasyon lang."
I just nodded and we sat in silence.
