Waking up my body felt heavy and I was exhausted, I didn't want to move or even open my eyes. And my bed was hard and cold...
Groaning I tried moving only to cry out when pain throbbed through my right arm. Opening my eyes, my vision was met with that of...fur? Using my other arm I reached out and touched the fur. It was filthy covered in dirt and grime. Why was this even in my house?
Suddenly the body the fur was attached to moved and breathed?! Gasping I pulled away and sat up using my good arm.
Only then did I realize exactly what that fur belonged to... I paled as I looked at the massive beast laying on the ground before me.
Memories of what happend the night before flooded over me and dread filled my entire being. I looked over the monster who was sleeping on the ground before me. It's claws were covered in with what looked like dry blood.
My heart started to race as I looked over the sleeping beast. How was I even still alive?! The mound of fur and flesh before me continued to rise and fall in even movements. The last thing I wanted right now was to wake the beast.
Did it take me away to eat me later? I couldn't bare the thought of being eaten alive, I needed to escape to get out of here... Wait...where am I?
Glancing around all I could see was trees and shrubbery, no formations or any familiar markings stood out, what should I do? Where should I go?
The beast before me took a sharp intake of breath and huffed loudly making me jump. Worried it was about to wake I quickly moved backwards until my back hit the hard bark of a tree. Covering my mouth I tried to calm myself, and watched the beast closely.
It continued its slumber without stirring. I needed to run. Carefully and slowly I got to my feet, I didn't dare to take my eyes off of the thing before me, in fear of accidentally waking it.
Swallowing hard I quietly shuffled away from the creature, once I was a few feet away I turned to look where I was going.
But my next step was vacant and I soon found myself falling down a steep hill. A shriek left my throat as I rolled down the steep slope and ended up in a muddy ditch, landing on my injured shoulder. I grand in pain holding my arm.
I had completely forgotten about my injury, I didn't even know how bad it really was. I sat up and pulled my hand away only to see some fresh blood.
My thoughts were interrupted as a loud snarl from above got my attention. A chill ran down my spine as realization hit me. It was awake...
Quickly I moved to a small den that had been dug out under a tree, crawling into the dark cramped space I tried to hide.
Seconds later I could hear the thud of something landing on the ground just outside. I covered my mouth as a clawed hand made itself visible just outside of the small den.
My body started to tremble as fear took over me and my breathing became uneven.
The beast only growled, inspecting the area, no doubt looking for it's missing prey. I watched in terror as it sniffed the air.
Would it smell my blood?!
I held my breath as it lowered its maw towards the ground where I had just been and growled lowly.
I expected it to turn towards me rip me from the small hole I was hiding in, and tear me apart.
The creature only sniffed the area before lifting it's head, it's ears twitched and a snarl was ripped from it's throat that nearly made me squeal. The monster let away fleeing the area and I was left alone with nothing but silence. After a moment of waiting I was able to catch my breath and slow my erratic heartbeat. It didn't notice me.
After taking a moment to reassure myself that I was okay, I crawled out of my body hole and looked around. There was no sign of the creature anywhere. Did it really just run off?
I sighed in relief and sat on my knees trying to get myself to relax, I was terrified at that moment. I thought I was going to die.
Carefully I stood up on shaky legs and looked around once more. I had seemed to fallen in the dried-up remains of a small creek. Holding my shoulder I started to make my way down the path the creek had carved out... Hopefully I could find some kind of water source....or even some sign of people, surely the beast didn't take me that far from home?
Trudging along the muddy path I though about gramps. He must be worried sick, he probably was out looking for me right now. I just needed to find my way back to the forests near our town then everything would be okay. My lips cracked a smile at the thought and I looked up towards the sky, It was already midday... I don't even know what direction I came from.
Sighing I continued forward ignoring the pain in my right shoulder. I needed to find some water to clean this wound before it got infected. Knowing my luck that's exactly what will happen, my injury will get infected and ill get sick.
A distant howl had me stopping in my tracks and I was frozen in place as fear started to take over me once more.
I swallowed hard, afraid of the other possibility...
