As morning came, my body felt stiff, as I tried to move. Sitting up I found that I had fallen asleep leaning against the cabin wall. Looking down I could see my wolf companion was still asleep with his head in my lap. I ran my hands through his fur and as I looked him over I realized just how big he really was. And that he was definitely a male wolf...

Moving his head off my lap, I tried to get up. To my dismay, pain flared up through my leg. Looking down at it I could see my ankle was swollen and red, it must have been sprained when the wolves attacked me.

Taking a deep breath I tried to ignore it and limped over to the cabinets looking for medical supplies. I managed to find some blankets and some bandages but nothing to clean open wounds. Walking to the counter I even tried using the sink but alas no water came from the old spout. Looking around I also spotted a mortar and pestle, if I could find some medicinal herbs then I could actually do something.

Looking back at the wolf I could see him starting to stir. Sighing I grabbed an old worn-out bag and headed for the door, as I opened it I could hear a slight growl coming from behind me. And I looked back to see he was now awake. He tried to sit up whining in pain.

"It's okay im not going anywhere...i won't run off...you need to rest... I just need to go find some water so I can clean your wounds." He growled in response and I could tell he didn't want me to leave. He stood up and started to walk towards the door.

"No! You need to lay down!" I kneeled in front of him as he reached me, and started to pet his head. "Please your too badly injured...i won't be gone long..."

His ears folded back as he sat down, and I gently helped him to lay back on his uninjured side. "I'll be right back...i promise..." His eyes met mine as I gave him my own silent promise. Standing up I opened the door, and in turn, he whined. I gave him a sorry smile and went outside closing it behind me.

Looking around the forest I felt a bit overwhelmed by the new area. Grabbing an old bucket near the door I started Limping over to the tree line and looked around for anything useful.

I managed to find some herbs that I could grind into a paste, and stuffed them into my bag. As I walked I also found a berry bush. Kneeling down I looked at them carefully. What were the chances that they were edible?

The rustle of bushes had me holding my breath and I stayed still. Did the wolves follow us this far out?

As the bush moved a small furry rabbit jumped out eating the same red berries I was debating on trying. Once it noticed me it hopped away and I let out a sigh of relief. I guess they were edible.

I was still on edge after last night and as I collected the berries, my mind started to run through everything that happend. The beast was able to transform into a wolf... Were all of those wolves able to do the same only into the more...monstrous form? No that didn't make sense...if they could change like him, they would have at the very start of that fight...he was capable of dealing a lot more damage in his other form...the only problem was he had been injured...and he was protecting me...

Why were they attacking him in the first place? They were attacking my village together...so why did they act like enemies? Was it because he was different? It just doesn't make sense... They even had matching collars...but they also acted kind of unnatural...like when he went berserk...was something making them act that way?...

Standing up I looked back towards the cabin, then continued looking for a water source. As I scavenged more herbs I came across a rocky area, and to my surprise, a small bit of water was running down the side of the stone ledge making a natural spring. I smiled and quickly made my way over. Rinsing off the dirt and dust from the bucket with the water, I made sure it was clean before filling it up.
