Let Me In (gxg)

21. Elijah

Delaney's Pov:

I woke up at 4 A.M. on top of Madison's chest. My head kinda hurt so I decided I might as well get up and get some Advil. I walked down stairs and went to the kitchen to the medicine cabinet. I grabbed the Advil bottle and took two out. I got a water bottle out of the fridge and took the pills. I put the water bottle back in the fridge and went back upstairs to my room. I was about to lay down when I saw Madison's hands. They were swollen and bruised with blood on them. I know for a fact that the blood on her hands isn't hers. Then all the memories of before started to come back. What he was doing to literally every girl at the party, what he said, what Madison did to him. I couldn't stop thinking about it. Everything just tolled on me. Especially what he said to me. There is no way I am falling back asleep now. So I decided to take a drive and listen to music to get my mind off of everything. 

I got in the car and turned it on. I plugged my phone into the aux. I pressed a random playlist and just let it play. I pulled out of the drive way and started on my journey. It's 4 A.M. so there aren't going to be many cars on the road. I'm not sure where I am driving to all I know is that I need to go as far as I can go. 

I was about to go to mine and Madison's mountain and just sit there and think but I couldn't do that without her so I decided on the next best thing. I parked the car and looked ahead of me. I unplugged my phone and took the keys out of the ignition. I got out of the car and saw the trail where I always used to go with my brother. I walked up the trail and saw it. I saw the water tower that me and my brother would always climb. I sometimes come alone and watch the sunrises or sunsets. I don't think Michael has been here in years. We always used to joke about there being a man that swims in the water at night. 

(Flashback: May 14, 2012 5:56 P.M.)  

"Dude. Hurry up the sun's about to set," Michael yelled from the railing of the water tower. I quickly got up the ladder cause I didn't want to miss the sunset. Once I got up the ladder I saw Michael sitting down. I sit next to him. I prop my feet up on part of the railing. "I wonder if the man is up there tonight?" Michael says. "Probably. I bet there's even a diving board up there so he can do canon balls and dives," I say while looking ahead at the beautiful sky starting to set. "Do you think he ever gets lonely up there?" Michael asks. "I would think so. Don't you think being in a water tower all the time and only being able to swim at night would get boring and lonely?" I respond. "You're right." "As always," I said with sass. Michael shoves me a little bit. I laugh in response. 

(flashback ends)

I smiled thinking about all the memories of me and Michael here. I look at the time and see that the sun is about to start rising. I walk up the ladder. I was about to sit where I always do when I saw another person. "Oh. Sorry, I didn't realize you were up here. I'll leave," I said. I started to turn around when I heard their voice. "No its fine. You can stay. I could use some company." I turned back around and saw them. I sat down next to them but not to close and not to far. "My name is Elijah. My pronouns are he/him," he said. "Hi Elijah. My name is Delaney. My pronouns are she/her," I say with a gentle, yet fake, smile. 

Elijah and I sat on the water tower just talking while the sun rose. It turns out he lives next to Olivia and is friends with her brother. I told him a little bit about me. I didn't tell him about the party or Madison because I didn't feel it was necessary. 

Elijah was really nice and we had a good time talking. He stood up and was about to leave when he turned back around. "Can I have your number? You seem really nice and I would like to get to know you better." "Sure," I say in response. He hands me his phone and I put my number in. He leaves and says thank you. I didn't feel like leaving cause I didn't want to have to face any people. As much as I love everyone I couldn't stand the thought of talking to anyone, especially Madison. Don't get me wrong I still like Madison and she is still my friend I would just feel guilty for giving Elijah my number. It's not like she's my girlfriends so I guess it shouldn't matter. 

I've been sitting here alone for twenty minutes just looking out at the world. I heard someone coming up the later. I turned to see who it was and saw Michael. "What are you doing here?" I ask him. "I could ask you the same question," he says. He sits down next to me and I just look at him very confused. "Fine. Madison asked me where you were and I guessed that you would be here and I was right." I smiled at the thought of Madison. "So. Why are you here?" he asked. "And I know its not just because you wanted to watch the sunrise." I look at him and he looks back at me. I thought about the party and started to break down. Michael pulled me into his arms and hugged me. "We're not leaving till you tell me," he says.
