Five full moons have passed since the day Rainfur had become deputy, and Dawnstar was only brimley on her last four lives.

"Leafshade, Willowheart, Goldenfeather, Featherhawk, Nightfall, and Pearlpaw, go on hunting patrol please." Rainfur was organizing the patrols at dawn, turning from cat to cat. "And Yarrowlight, Escentmoon, Fernpaw, Sunshine, and Hollowfeather, go on dawn patrol."

The cats nodded, gathered together, and left. Rainfur watched them leave, feeling quite nostalgic. It's been so long since I've been ordered to a patrol.

"What are you thinking, something about our past?" Brambleheart padded toward her, his tail sweeping over her fur.

"Yeah. I feel... responsible for so many things." Rainfur sighed, sitting down.

"You must be tired, let's go share fresh-kill." Brambleheart suggested.

"Fine." She stood up again, and yawned, stretching her paws, then followed Brambleheart. "How is Moonkit and Sunkit doing with Dapplefur?" The thought suddenly popped up in her mind.

"They're doing great! Do you want to see them? They seem happier than ever in the nursery with Dapplefur's kits." Brambleheart purred in delight. Even happier than they were with me? Rainfur stiffened, then relaxed. What are you thinking, mouse brain! Think about how happy they are! You should be happy and proud of them! Not jealous!

"Sure." Rainfur agreed, and followed Brambleheart to the nursery. Lichen covered a small corner of the den, and four kits were playing there. Dapplefur's kits, who were around 5 moons old. Honeykit and Reedkit, a tom and a she-cat, along with Rainfur's, around 5 moons old, Moonkit and Sunkit, also a tom and a she-cat. "Hello!" Rainfur purred as she finally saw her kits again.

"Rainfur! We missed you! We want you back! Dapplefur is nice, but I want you, you're my mother!" Moonkit's eyes rounded as she heard her mother's voice.

"Me too!" Sunkit turned around.

"Sorry my wonderful kits, but I have to stay being deputy, it's my destiny to, I will come back for you, I promise. You'll be an apprentice soon anyways." Rainfur's heart almost shattered into pieces as she said that sentence.

"You promise?" Moonkit pleaded.

"Yes." Rainfur's voice cracked. "I'll come back next time, have fun." Not being able to bear it anymore, she left the nursery, with Bramleheart following behind.

"It'll be okay, you'll be a great leader, and they'll understand." Brambleheart told you.

"I hope so." Rainfur sighed, and padded towards the fresh-kill pile. "Come on, share a squirrel with me." She called him.

"Coming!" Brambleheart padded towards her. Tails twined together, they shared the prey under the bright sun, shining with hope.

"RIVERCLAN, ATTACK!" Riverflow's voice pierced through the camp. The sun was already setting. Couldn't they have planned a different time? Rainfur grumbled in frustration. Put RainClan's safety first though. Stop complaining, Rainfur! You're the deputy now! Make a good role model!

"Not again!" Willowheart mumbled.

"I really wish this was over." Rainfur groaned.

"RAINCLAN, ATTACK!" Rainfur yowled, and the clan charged on.

"Come, fight Riverflow with me." Willowheart urged, eyes shining, and of course, Rainfur couldn't resist.

"Of course."

They crept up behind Riverflow in their battle stances, and prepared to pounce. At the right moment, they launched themselves upwards, digging her claws into Riverflow's back, as Willowheart nippled at his belly.

"OW! WHERE DID YOU COME FROM!" Riverflow screeched in pain as he realised there were two attackers on him.

"Remember me?" Rainfur hissed into his face, and scratched his eye.

"Of course I do." Riverflow scowled, and flung her off his back. Rainfur landed with a thump. "Ha! Not much of a deputy are-" His eyes glimmered with triumph, but before he could attack, Willowheart bit hard on his hind leg. "OUCH! AHHHH!" Riverflow screamed in surprise.

"That's what I thought. Stay away from Rainfur!" Willowheart grunted. Rainfur felt the warmth of her best friend crawl through her fur, and silently purred.

While she was caught up in her thoughts, Riverflow lunged upwards, and dug his claws in her shoulder. Rainfur couldn't move. Riverflow snarled, and bit into her hind leg, then pushed her to the ground. Rainfur shrieked in pain, looking for Willowheart.

Willowheart was fending off another warrior that was trying to help Riverflow. I guess I'm going to die. Just like this. Rainfur's eyes watered.

"I won't kill you. As I don't need to kill you to win. We already won the Stream." Riverflow spoke calmly, like he always did in gatherings. Riverflow and Rainfur were quite alike in some ways, and friends in some ways. That's just hideous. The Stream is OURS. Without wasting a breath, Rainfur charged up again, with fury that he already claimed the Stream to be theirs.

"The Stream will NEVER be RiverClans!!!!" Rainfur hissed, and grabbed him by the neck like what queens did to carry their kits. Even though Riverflow was really heavy, Rainfur was so angry that she didn't feel the most of it. Riverflow's eyes widened, and without warning, got flung into the nearby lake.

Coughing, Riverflow swam out of the lake, his eyes glimmered with menace as he stalked back to Rainfur. Oh StarClan. Now he hates me more.

"The Stream will be ours." Riverflow's eyes glittered in the setting sun, making his eyes glow orange. "But not today." He sighed. "I will get you back. Just you wait!"

Rainfur purred, she knew he was an enemy, but he was a good friend sometimes too. "That won't happen, but sure."

"RIVERCLAN, RETREAT!" Riverflow casted one last glance at you, and left with his clan.

"Willowheart? Are you okay?" Rainfur remembered her friend that was fending off the huge tom.

"Yeah, I'm fine." Willowheart nodded, and Rainfur was relieved to see it was true. "How was your-" Her eyes widened as she looked up to see Rainfur. "Oh StarClan! Let's get you to Amberfur and Cloudheart."

"Is it that bad?" Rainfur stared at her friend.

"Does it not hurt?" Willowheart stared back.

"Not really?" Rainfur started questioning herself.

"Are we starting a staring contest now?" Willowheart didn't blink.

"No. No. We're not here to fool around. Let's go get our injuries healed." Rainfur blinked out of it.

"You're right." Willowheart sighed, and they both padded back to camp.
