7 The Mission

Before I knew it he had jumped.

And without thinking, I jump after him, soon falling at the same height as him.

Once we were through the clouds, we caught sight of a ship and I followed his lead as we dove down.

As he positioned himself to fall into the water, I fell into action and quickly balanced myself as I grabbed him and flew us up to the deck.

Once I put him down, he met my eyes as his widened, "How did you do that?"

"Steve, I'll explain everything later. We have a job to do." He gave me a nod and soon we both started taking out guards and deck workers one by one.

As Steve fought each one, I sent energy blasts knocking many overboard. I would create the illusion of them fighting each other or even themselves.

After getting most of them, one stood and cocked his gun at Steve's head. I turned around, but before I could do anything, the man was shot and fell to the ground as one of the agents from the plane landed.

Steve looked back and gave him a nod as I did the same, "Thanks."

"Yeah, you seemed pretty helpless without me."

More agents then arrived and soon Natasha landed beside us, "Nice tricks."

I gave her a smile, "Thanks."

She then turned to Steve and smirked, "What about the nurse that lives across the hall from you?"

Steve gave me a knowing glance before replying, "Secure the engine room then find me a date."

She smirked at me and then jumped over the railing, "I'm multitasking."

Steve and I ran as I gave him a little shove, "She seems to really want you to go on a date."

"She's just worried I've been alone too long, it's nothing new."

When he stopped to climb, I flew up into the air as I looked at him, "So, umm, I'm guessing..."

Once he got to the top he met my eye as I landed beside him, "Yeah, she's not an option right now."

We stopped and turned towards the head of the ship as we watched for the signal.

"Steve, I have to ask. Did you ever look for me?"

"I planned on it, but then the plans flew elsewhere, like when I was frozen for just about seventy years. You've missed a whole lot more than a decade."

I gave him a solemn smile before shaking my head, "I was taken, but because of it, I have all of these new powers. It's how I could still sense Earth, only I couldn't really sense you... or Buck."

"After this, we'll sit and talk."

I nodded and gave him a smile as radioed Natasha.

"Natasha, what's your status?"

There was nothing. I met Steve's eyes as I tried to sense her, "Status, Natasha."

There was another silence and then we heard her voice, "Hold on!"

The sounds that followed sounded painful, but I could tell that she was okay. She was tough and I sensed that when we first met.

"Engine room secure."

I held my breath as I waited and soon Steve motioned for my move, "On my mark. Three..."

I positioned myself over the room as I cloaked my body while doing it.

"Two..."

Getting ready, I took a deep breath before moving closer.

"One."

I held my hands out before me, binding the helmsman together. They turned, looking around only to duck when they noticed an object flying their way.

"Nice one, Kat!"

Steve jumped over the railing as he jumped through the windows before the men escaped. I closed my eyes as I followed Steve, sensing every presence nearby.

"Steve, on your right."

Walking down the steps, he was engaged in a fight as I leaned against the railing and watched, slightly amused.

And after a vigorous battle, the man stood and looked at Steve, as French words fell from his lips, "I thought you were more than just your shield."

Steve, glanced and me and smirked as he stood tall, placing his shield on his back as he took off his helmet, tossing it to me while he replied to the man in the language he spoke prior, "Let's see."

I held the helmet in front of me as Steve sent me a wink before engaging in the fight once more.

Soon charging at the man, Steve broke down a door as I turned around, following him in.

"Wow. This is awkward," Natasha sent me a smirk before turning back to the screen in front of her. I bent down and helped Steve up as he looked at her while I simply looked around.

"What are you doing?"

"Backing up the hard drive. It's a good habit to get into." Steve shook his head as I took a seat, watching.

"Rumlow needed your help. What the hell are you doing here?"

I raised my brow and crossed my arms, smirking, "Langauge."

He glanced at me before rolling his eyes and turning to the screen, "You're saving SHIELD intel."

She clicked her tongue and nodded, "Whatever I can get my hands on."

"Our mission is to rescue hostages."

"No... That's your mission," she leaned forward and grabbed a stick from the device as she turned to leave, "And you've both done it beautifully."

I stood up and then cloaked myself as Steve grabbed her arm, "You just jeopardized this whole operation."

"I think that's overstating things."

Snapping their heads, the man by the door jumped to his feet and cocked his head before throwing a hand grenade.

Without thinking, Steve grabbed Natasha as she shot a window, both of them diving over it as I ran to the grenade. I threw myself over it just barely containing the blast in a barrier as Steve stood up and looked for me.

"Kat? Katerina? Kat, where are you?"

Uncloaking myself, I stood up and looked at him, "I'm right here..."

I took two steps towards him before his eyes widened as he rushed up to me, "Kat, you're bleeding. Kat-"

Losing my balance, I fell into his arms before losing my state of mind.
