After leaving, we were back on the motorbike, and then out of nowhere, I sensed trouble, only it was familiar.

Closing my eyes, I blocked out the sensation and soon we arrived at another building. Going in we walked down a hall but stopped when this woman turned around, "My aunt, she's kind of an insomniac. Yeah."

She then tapped on her basket of clothes as Steve glanced at me before turning to her, "You know if you want, if you want... You can use my machine. Might be cheaper than the one in the basement."

She cocked her head and smirked, "Oh yeah, what's it cost?"

"A cup of coffee?"

She smiled again before shaking her head glancing at me before looking back to Steve, "Thank you, but I already have a load in downstairs and I don't really want my scrubs in your machine. I just finished a rotation in the infectious ward, so..."

"Ahh, I'll keep my distance."

"Hopefully not too far."

I turned towards the door and heard music as she turned to leave but not before turning her head, "Oh, and I think you left your stereo on."

Steve sent her a smile before nodding, "Thank you."

Once she was gone, I grabbed his arm before he could unlock the door, "Tell me you left it on."

"I didn't."

Cautiously, I walked into the apartment as Steve went around, taking another route. I cloaked myself and walked into the living area, only to see a darker man on the couch.

He looked over to where I stood, raising a brow before turning to Steve who stood around the corner.

"I don't remember giving you a key."

The man groaned as he sat up, "You'd really think I need one? Besides, my wife kicked me out."

Steve looked up before turning back to the man, "Didn't know you were married."

"A lot of things you don't know about me."

Steve sighed and put his shield to the side as he walked up to the man, "I know, Nick. That's the problem."

I thought for a moment, Nick? As in Nick Fury...

Backing up, I knocked over a lamp as they both turned to me. Nick smirked as he looked me directly in the eye, "I only seek shelter."

I raised my brow but waved my hand and uncloaked myself before I walked over to Steve who turned on the light.

Nick shook his head and turned the light off before writing something out on his phone.

ears everywhere

I closed my eyes for a moment as I listened, as I focused on my surroundings.

"I'm sorry I had to do this, but I had no place else to crash."

Steve placed his hand around my waist as he held me close while we both read the words.

shield compromised

"Who else knows about your wife?"

you, me, and now her

Nick stood up and sighed, "Just my friends."

"Is that what we are?"

"That's up to you."

Sensing a presence, I walked forward and motioned for the phone.

someone's outside, i can sense them

Nick looked at me and then nodded but before any more could be said, a shot was fired and Nick fell on his side. Steve grabbed his arm and pulled him out of harm's way as Nick handed him a device stick.

"Don't trust anyone, but each other."

The door burst open and soon the woman from down the hall walked in, armed.

"Captain Rogers?"

Steve looked around the corner and she noticed him, letting out a sigh of relief, "Captain. I'm Agent 13 of SHIELD. Special Service."

"Kate."

"I'm assigned to protect you."

"On whose order?"

Steve grabbed my arm and pulled me behind him as she walked towards Nick's body, "His."

She checked his pulse before pulling out a walkie, "Foxtrot is down, he's unresponsive. I need EMTs."

Another voice sounded but all I could hear was the footsteps outside.

I turned towards the window as Steve held onto my waist before turning to look with me. I looked through the blinds and we noticed a man so we did the only thing we knew how.

I jumped through the window as I landed on the roof across and soon Steve followed behind. Only, he landed in the story below us, so I ran after the man alone.

Trailing behind him, I was getting closer until he jumped off the roof. I caught myself landing on the next roof over as Steve appeared, throwing his shield.

The only issue was that the man caught it without flinching.

He threw it back as he only looked to Steve, then I realized, I had recloaked myself. I walked towards the man but in the blink of an eye, he disappeared.

Uncloaking myself, I kicked the ground as Steve ran up to me, "Hey, hey, it's okay."

"No, no it's not. I should've sensed him coming. I did, but something's off, it- it's familiar. I just don't know why."

He sighed as he pulled me into a hug before we found ourselves at the hospital, awaiting Nick's recovery.

I sat against the wall as Steve stood, watching through the glass. Then before I knew it Natasha rushed in taking her spot beside Steve.

"Is he going to make it?"

"I don't know."
