Iris POV
Cooking wasn't something I was necessarily fond of. Normally Mom would dish something up and I would enjoy it to my hearts content. She always said my appreciation for her food was what always kept her going.
Even through her trials and errors, I was there to help her perfect recipes. One that I grew to love was her blueberry pie. It was her speciality, and she told me that my little help in adding a bit more sugar helped her perfect it. Though at the time I knew she was just trying to help me become apart of her little celebration, I can definitely say my remark on her adding more sugar was not necessary. She mastered it all on her own, but my eight year old self ate up all the credit that was given to me. Even the pie — I also ate the pie.
Sooner or later, Mom ended up opening a bakery in California when she moved away to leave Sam. Along with her, she took Howard; the love of her life. They both successfully got her business up and running. From then on, my mom lived her life in peace knowing she was happy and I was in my father's care. As we all know, that wasn't the case. Since all my supposed "father" did was abuse me.
And now he's in jail rotting and paying the price for it, much to Xavier's pleasure. As well as mine.
Regret and shame was all Carla felt after meeting me, her daughter that she left behind in order for a new beginning. Many will say she is selfish for what she did, which she was, but to her defense she had thought my "father" would love and care for me even if she left. Clearly she wasn't there to witness him ruining his life and mine along with it.
But little did Sam know, putting me in the hands of a supposed ruthless and cunning billionaire would only have me falling in love. Those turn of events didn't fail to give me headaches along the way, but Xavier definitely held out for me.
Even during my pregnancy. After one that was cruelly snatched away by my "father" shooting me, another one blossomed. One that left Xavier, more than me, excited from his whole being.
Now, laying in bed as he rubbed my very knocked up belly, I could tell he was definitely lost in another fantasy.
The way his eyes were closed, showing off his long eyelashes that practically made me jealous of them. His hair disheveled from me playing with it, and his lips tugged upward to a small smile. I can tell his little dream was making him go over the moon in his mind. Maybe quite literally.
"Hey," I whispered and shook him a little with my hand. "Wakey wakey."
I laughed at my choice of words. Xavier loved when I babied him awake, but in this moment I may have to use more force than this.
Xavier didn't budge, not even a little. It was definitely because of my gentle and futile attempts that he was still drifted off into a slumber. Somehow his hand had kept stroking my belly; even after being knocked out. To say it was amusing is an understatement.
Okay, jokes over.
"Wake up!" I groaned right after I patted him not so gently on the shoulder due to the baby slyly kicking me in my stomach. The little brat knew what I was doing, yet decided to take its father's side. Though it made me crack a playful smile which quickly turned into a grimace seconds later.
Xavier, as typical Xavier, was still not budging.
"Fine, you chose the hard, hard way," I spoke while cracking my knuckles in attempt to sound intimidating. To who? I don't even know.
