Iris POV
No, it can't be.
I gasped as my hand went over my mouth to keep myself from screaming like a dying bird.
Xavier was standing on the left side of the office aiming a gun at the head of some guy kneeling down. There were other men dressed in black standing around but I only noticed Xavier look over at me from the corner of my eye but I couldn't care less.
The guy was breathless and was bloody from head to toe. I felt warm tears coming down from my face as I turned around while shutting the door to leave.
What just happened!?
The elevator ding caused my head to jolt up as I got out and was faced with Carley smirking. I gave her the finger and left causing her smirk to turn upside down.
Of course she had known about this. I knew Carley was just a worker for Xavier so I wasn't as jealous as I used to be towards her but she is still jealous. I didn't have time to deal with her bullshit.
I trembled with the keys as I finally opened the car door and drove off. I just want to be away from Xavier. My mind went blank as I drove off to nowhere. Sooner or later I was sobbing as I noticed that I was lost. I looked around only to find trees and bushes.
My vision was blurry and all I wanted to do was scream. The suns light orange and yellow hue let me know that I have been here for a long time. What am I going to do? Just go back and act like I hadn't seen anything?
No.
What was Xavier doing?
Clearly he was trying to shoot that damn guy, my consciousness spoke. I shook my head in disbelief as I stared outside in deep thought. I knew that Xavier Queen was known as the cruel, vicious, and bold billionaire but this is not what I expected.
I expected him to be breaking girls hearts, sleeping around, and yada yada yada. But killing people was not it. My mind roamed around searching for answers and thinking of several scenarios as to this being less bad. But of course that didn't work.
What if he's part of a mafia gang!? No, that can't be it.
Maybe he was secretly an actor. Besides, he's also a model. But there definitely were no cameras around. Everyone seemed serious until I walked in. No one even laughed or tried holding me back. I buried my face into my hands in frustration.
Why this? Out of everything why this?
I wiped my tears away and looked at my face from the rear view. I am a hot ass mess. I reversed the car and tried to return back to some place close to somewhere I knew where I was. I tried looking for my phone but realized it was left back at the penthouse since I was in a rush. Shit.
This car didn't have a GPS so I'm basically stranded. This is why people make rational decisions, my consciousness spoke. After driving for a few minutes I noticed I was finally back into the city and thanked god.
In the distance there was a restaurant ahead which made my hope lighten up. I can go in there and call Xavier. Yes, as much as I don't want to see him I'll deal with it since I'm pregnant and practically a lost hopeless puppy.
I parked the car and got out. As I went into the restaurant I noticed a group of men sitting inside with no one else in view. As confused as I was this was none of my business. I just need Xavier to come pick me up.
I saw the lady at the receptionist desk typing away on her computer. I approached her in fast steps trying to get this over with. "Excuse me, I don't have my phone and I'm lost so could I please use a phone?" I asked pleadingly. She rolled her eyes and gave me a spare phone out of her desk.
I mumbled a small 'thank you' and went into the bathrooms for some privacy. Did she really have to give me that much attitude? I called Xavier's phone number, thankful that I remembered it. On the second ring he picked up.
"What?" He snapped sounding irritated.
I sighed and spoke, "X-Xavier it's me, Iris. I'm lost so could you please co-" but before I finished he interrupted me. "Shit! I know where you are. I'm coming. Stay where you are," and with that the phone beeped indicating he ended the call.
Well that was rude. I rubbed my temples as I got out the bathrooms and gave the phone back to the lady, thanking her. All she did was roll her eyes and nod.
I decided to sit down at one of the tables and wait for Xavier for at least five minutes until someone caught my attention. It was one of the men from the table.
Wait, I know him. The guy looked extremely familiar until he turned his head for me to meet with his blue orbs.
Mathew. Wait, what was he doing here? I furrowed my eyebrows as he stared intently at me. After a long staring session he finally stood up and walked towards me.
"What are you doing here?" He asked sitting opposite of me. I rolled my eyes and told him it's none of his business. He chuckled darkly and smirked at me. "Did your rich and spoiled sugar daddy leave you?"
That's it.
"What the fuck is your problem, Mathew? You've changed. I've already told you it's none of your business since you clearly don't give a fuck about me." I practically growled at him in the end.
He clenched his jaw and rolled his eyes. "It's for the best," he mumbled looking down.
I sighed and looked outside. I saw no sign of Xavier or anyone. When will he get here?
"So, you're married now," he stated. I turned back to look at him and nodded. I saw a glint of anger and jealously flash through his eyes but I could be wrong.
"Have you found anyone yet?" I asked. He shook his head and slouched back into the seat. "I can't when I only have one person on my mind."
I raised my eyebrows curiously. "Who?"
He looked at me curiously searching for something. "No one important."
I shrugged as he kept on looking at me. "Why are you here?" I asked breaking the silence. He gave me a 'seriously?' look before turning his head towards the group of men.
"I had to deal with some business." I nodded as I kept on thinking about the night he kissed me. I know he was drunk but why would he do something like that? "Why did you kiss me that night?" I asked. Might as well just put it out there, right?
His eyes darkened a shade as he folded his hands over the table. "I was drunk. After our little visit I couldn't help but think you weren't happy even if you looked happy. So I decided to go over there to figure out the truth," he replied shrugging.
"Mathew, I know I was forced into this but I actually love Xavier. I haven't even told him this yet except for our vows but I will soon. I'm sorry if I hurt you in any way but I don't know why you're acting this way."
There, I said it.
He looked at me and nodded before standing up. "I'll see you around, Iris," and with that he left back to the group of men.
Well that went well. I buried my head into my arms and breathed heavily. Why can't Mathew just be happy for me? There was definitely more to what he was telling me, and I will find out what it is.
Before I knew it I slowly drifted off to sleep.
After some time I felt someone's arms snake around my waist to carry me. I sleepily moaned and shifted before the person whispered, "shh sleep."
Well, might as well listen. I felt myself being put into a car before I completely dozed off.
Who is this mysterious person?
