Iris POV
A bright white light. Or was it blue? Either way, it was blinding me once I finally gained some consciousness. The ringing in my ears still hadn't stopped yet. I could make out that my eyes were closed as they had been weighing heavy on me for some time now.
Am I dead? Is this what happens? Where am I?
Murmurs brought my attention away from the ringing in my ears that still wouldn't go away. It had to at some point. A bunch of thoughts were bundled up so I wasn't able to grasp any of them.
"She will wake up sooner or later." A voice that seemed to have belonged to a man clearly sounded anxious. Are they talking about me? Who are they?
"She better." A familiar deep voice that I knew all too well brought me back from the semi daze I was currently in. It can't be...
Xavier?
Small beeps that got louder and louder made me flinch. The voices became murmurs once again but they were more worried and startled than usual. What is happening?
"Get her checked! If anything happens I swear-" Hearing Xavier's voice again made me finally realize it was him.
My mouth was closed as I didn't seem to gasp out loudly until I actually had. My whole mouth was dry and sandpapery from the inside and outside which wasn't a pleasant feeling. I finally managed to lick my dry lips as the feeling felt better than having them dry as the Sahara desert. My eyes, however, seemed to have been glued together. Maybe it had been a while since I opened them but I didn't expect them to stay glued together for this long. I can mostly hear everyone around me and by the smell it's obvious I'm in a hospital.
"Iris?" Xavier's soft voice sounded as if he was in disbelief. I desperately tried to pry my eyes open with the strength I had mustered up as I finally succeeded. Once again, I was met with a bright light blinding me and causing me to shut my eyes once again.
More murmurs were heard until a switch was finally turned off. The bright light seemed to have dimmed as I slowly opened my eyes only to see a white ceiling. It had light brown tinted dots sprinkled on it if you stared at it more closely. Almost like the moon but much smaller compared to the size.
A warm hand cradled my face as I leaned into the touch. The warmth from it was enough for me to wake up a little more. Not that I was cold, but it was a nice feeling.
"You're awake," Xavier spoke in awe and a gentle tone as if I would disappear into dust. It was nice to hear his voice after all that has happened. I still couldn't remember anything that happened after I got shot by Sam, other than Xavier carrying me away to safety. It was clear he took me to a hospital and now here I am.
"I-Is our baby okay?" My voice was hoarse as I finally turned my head to take a good look at Xavier. His expression was one I couldn't read which was concerning but it could be that he was just in shock.
He must have noticed my need for water and went back to retrieve it from the doctor who stood far away from us.
As he came back, he helped me up slightly as I finally felt pain in my stomach and lower region. I grimaced at the feeling as if someone was punching my stomach left and right all the while stabbing me. Soon the pain turned into worry. Looking down, I saw that my bump had simmered down to the point where I didn't even look nine months pregnant anymore.
"What happened?" I questioned almost to myself but loud enough for Xavier to hear. He didn't respond and only handed me the cup of water and placed it at the front of my lips. As much as I wanted to protest, I took a sip from it until the cup was finished from the liquid.
