Iris POV
I'm glad. I'm glad that I'm back from being held captive by someone who I thought was my best friend.
Mathew. Why he did this, I don't know. Well, maybe I do. Apparently he likes me which is confusing since I thought that was all in the past. He even said that he had someone in mind but I guess he was talking about me. Although Mathew has done this I can't help but think he was helpless. It wasn't all his fault considering the fact that he only wanted someone to love.
I didn't want him to go to jail so instead the least we could do is press charges against him. I hope he's learned his lesson and as much as I want to go to him and ask him why he would go this extreme, I can't.
Whenever I brought that up Xavier's eyes would hold anger so I decided not to bring it up ever again. I guess I'll always have in mind that my best friend was in love with me.
I sighed as I got out of bed. I couldn't sleep this whole night because of what happened over the past few days. I'm glad I got saved by Xavier and that my wedding ring had a tracker in it. At the same time I don't want to forget the fact that Xavier was about to kill someone.
How long was he going to hide this from me? I will ask him today after he wakes up. For now I'll just get ready.
I got up and went to the bathroom to do the neccecities. Afterwards I went downstairs to get some food. Since the pregnancy cravings are really kicking in. So far I crave anything sweet and salty like pickles with ice cream.
Xavier thinks its weird but we both know he'll have to deal with it.
"There you are." I immedietly turned around to face the source of the voice. None other than Xavier. "You're already up?" He asked in a gruff voice. I nodded as he came closer to me and nuzzled his face into the crook of my neck. "This is my safe haven," he said in a husky voice as his breath fanned my neck.
I chuckled as he held me into his embrace. "Are you okay?" I asked concerned. Why is he suddenly being like this, although I don't mind it. "I'm just tired and our bed is very empty and cold without you," he replied pulling back.
A smile tugged at my lips as I took my hand and brought his face closer to mine. We kissed but soon I pulled back since I was hungry and wanted my pickles and ice cream. "Let's go back to our bed." I shook my head as he furrowed his eyebrows. "I want to eat pickles and ice cream."
He stared at me like I was insane. "Iris Rose Queen, it's six in the morning and you want to eat pickles and ice cream?" I shrugged, "A girls gotta do what a girls gotta do." He chuckled and kissed my forehead, "Okay, I'll join."
Xavier took out the pickles and ice cream as I sat down on a chair while my hands rested on the kitchen island. He came and sat beside me but I didn't waste any time and started eating. The whole time Xavier kept on looking at me but I thankfully avoided his gaze. I took the spoon and wiped off any extra ice cream on it.
"Eat more," Xavier insisted as he handed me another pint of ice cream. I stared at him in disbelief and shook my head, "Why are you feeding me so much all of a sudden?" He stared at me and smiled, "So no other man would dare want you except for me." I widened my eyes as he laughed at my reaction. "You're joking, right?" He shook his head as I glared at him. "You're only mine Iris."
I rolled my eyes and slouched back into the seat, "I know that. But you want me to get fat?" He took his hand and gently caressed my cheek.
"Yes, I don't care if you're fat or not but to me you're everything." I smiled as he took my hand and lead me upstairs. We laid in bed the rest of the time but I had to ask Xavier sooner or later about the incident.
Might as well do it now. "Xavier?" He hummed in response as he brushed his lips against my cheek leaving small butterfly kisses. "Why were you about to kill that man?" I asked as my throat choked at the end. He stopped and laid back onto his pillow in defeat. "I should've known you would get out of the penthouse," he spoke most likely to himself.
"Well of course I would since I had no clue where you were. I was worried something had happened. I saw all your security and body guards which made me even more frightened and curious."
He chuckled and gave me a kiss on my forehead, "You're my curious little kitten." I nodded but I wanted answers and Xavier knew that so he sighed and caressed my cheek.
"I had to deal with some business so I left you at the penthouse because you were sleeping peacefully. I ordered my men to cover every inch of the penthouse so you would stay safe. No one knows about my business except for my father and Taylor." I nodded taking all the information in. "But what kind of business is this that involves killing people?"
He shook his head and his eyes turned darker than they were before. "Just promise me you won't get mad at me," He spoke softly willing to tell me. Well of course, unless his business was involved in the mafia then I will surely get mad, but he doesn't need to know that. "Sure, I promise." He sighed and kissed me but soon I pulled back since I wanted the truth.
"I am a mafia leader. That day the man I was about to kill ha-" but before he could finish I interrupted.
No, no, no! Why? Out of everything why the mafia. They kill innocent people and Xavier is the leader of one.
"Why? Why the mafia? Xavier this is not right! You can't just kill innocent lives!" His eyes were completely dark as he ran his hands through his hair in frustration.
"You don't understand. The people my gang kill aren't innocent. They are the ones who kill real innocent people and we get back at them."
"And what exactly do they do to the innocent people?" I asked. "Kill them. They torture them until their very last breath," he replied and shut his eyes.
I can tell Xavier has gone through a lot but I want him to stop now. Now that I know he's in the mafia that isn't my concern, him dying is my concern. People in the mafia are dangerous and cruel. They would do anything to find your greatest weakness and use it against you. I know this because my father was also involved in it.
My mom hated him doing it but he had no choice. She slept every night in worry not knowing if dad was alive or not. Which is why I'm concerned for Xavier. I can't imagine my life without him which is why taking these risks aren't helping. "Being in the mafia isn't why I'm worried, it's because I'm afraid that something will I happen to you," I stated softly.
Xavier opened his eyes and they were lighter than before. "Baby, my crew is in the top of the mafia. No one dares to defy me. If they do I can't help but give them no mercy. But ever since I met you you've changed that. You brought out the side of me that I never thought was even real."
This is why he's known as the cruel, bold, and ruthless billionaire? I furrowed my eyes as he tried to kiss me. I pulled back before he had the chance and spoke, "Xavier, give me sometime to take this in."
He nodded and snuggled closer to me. "Go to sleep. We'll talk about this in a few hours." He's right. I nodded as sleep took over me.
