Iris POV
My heart was in my stomach as she squeezed the life out of me.
I was ripped apart by strong arms so I was able to breath. What the hell? Mary gave me a sorry look before glaring at Xavier.
"Mom you need to chill. Iris is pregnant and I don't want any harm done," spoke Xavier glaring back at his mother. "I'm so sorry for startling you darling but are you okay? After what happened in California I can't imagine what you must've gone through. Oh my god! The baby, please tell me the baby is alright!"
Xavier looked at me apologetically before pulling Mary to the side and I assume he was filling her in on everything. As I was about to close the front door a familiar figure caught my eye. Martin was looking at me while standing next to a car which I assume is his.
He started walking towards me and I opened the door further so he could get in. "I hope you're alright," he stated with his face completely emotionless but his eyes told a different story. They held worry and sadness. After finding out that Xavier, Taylor, and Martin were in the mafia I finally knew why they're so cold.
"I'm fine. Come in." Everyone sat down in the living room to clear the tension. Mary started off by asking me a million questions about what happened but I explained it to her without exploding. Dinner approached as we all started eating Mary's home cooked meal. Might I add, she's really good at cooking.
I wonder how Mary handles Martin since he's in the mafia. How did she take it in everyday that he may or may not die? Now's the time to ask since Xavier and Martin are discussing something. "Mary, you don't have to answer this but, how do you handle everything when Martin and your sons are in the mafia?"
She looked confused and shocked from my question but gave me a short smile. "It's about faith and knowing that they're doing the right thing. Do you trust Xavier?" I nodded my head. Xavier's intentions are true towards me.
"Good, it'll take you awhile to adjust to this but soon you'll understand. And I can tell you've brought out the best in him." I thanked her and started eating again. I guess I'll just listen to Mary for now and adjust to this and have faith in Xavier.
After Mary was satisfied that I was fine and healthy, they both left since Martin had business to attend in California. "Iris, I have to talk to you." I smiled and walked over to Xavier in the lounge. "What's up?" I asked. "Sorry for not telling you about my parents sudden arrival."
"It's fine, it's nice to catch up." He nodded but suddenly tensed. The tension was clear as Xavier cleared his throat. "While I was in California, I had Ryan do a background check on your life so we knew who the suspects could be for the kidnapping. He found something about your personal life that you need to know."
"What is it?" I asked with my eyebrows furrowed. Something about my personal life? What could possibly be in California? "He found out that Carla is alive and well with a spouse." The room fell in silence as I let Xavier's words sink in.
Carla, my mother. Who was everything I wanted to be, my inspiration. Who was kicked out by my father without a valid reason. These three years I had no idea she was alive, the only thing I was told was that she had died and move on. But no. She has a spouse and is living her life like nothing happened!? She left me here without a reason, just poof. She let my father abuse me and left without care.
That Carla. "Iris? Iris!" I looked up to see Xavier with a glass of water. "I know it's hard, but what happened in the past?" I took the water from his hand and poured some on my face making sure this was real. Yup, it's real, and very cold.
I heard some shuffling and Xavier cursing under his breath about not telling me.
He wiped my face and some of my t-shirt because of the water. "Why'd you do that? Iris, you're in shock." I shook my head and a tear slipped out. "My father kicked her out for an unknown reason. These three years I thought she was dead; gone. And now she's alive and living her life without any care of her daughter who was abused in these years!"
