Adachi POV:

Okayyy~ I have the flowers ready, the cake is already thawing on the table, and the room is scented with my strawberry cologne that he loves! This is totally gonna make up for the fact I couldn't be there today.

Author POV:

Today wasn't just any day, it was the day Kurosawa got promoted into the CEO position of their company and received "Best Head Chief" award for the past year. The award was going to be given in the next town over but Adachi had felt sick in the morning and therefore needed to stay home.

But just cause he was a little under the weather didn't mean he was gonna let his lovers biggest day go down as a sick day. That's why he prepared a his own celebration at home for the two of them to bask in their happiness of the new future.

* ding * * ding *

Adachi put down the freshly dotted roses and grabbed his phone from his pocket. A sweet smile showed when he saw who the text was from. Although it quickly faltered after.

🥰My Love🥰: Hello. Home in 5.

"We'll that's odd" Adachi thought to himself. Kurosawa was always someone to speak sweetly even through messages. Which made Adachi confused as to why his lovers message had such a cold tone to it.

Oh well, he continued to set everything and then stand by the door, ready to greet Kurosawa with open arms and a special golden rose.

He heard the pin code being entered through the door and fixed his hair quickly before putting on his big smile.

The door opened revealing a tired and puffy eyed Kurosawa.

Adachi took a step forward and placed both of his soft hands on Kurosawas tear stained cheeks.

"Whats wrong baby?" he spoke. Kurosawa only continued looking at the ground before speaking. "Nothing.". Adachi didn't take this answer well as he knew it obviously all wasn't fine with Kuro and pushed further for an explanation".

"Kuro, there's obviously something wrong, why don't you-"

"I said everything's fine!" Kurosawa cut in. A loose tear falling from his eye and landing on Adachis thumb.

...

the room went silent. Kurosawa had never cut Adachi off when speaking, especially not with a powerful statement. And man did he feel bad about using that voice to his young lover.

He took Adachis hands from his cheeks and held them in front of him. "I'm sorry. I just-". it was adachis turn to cut him off, knowing that if he kept going he would begin to cry again. And he couldn't watch the man he loved break further.

There was a time for sadness. And that time was not, now was a time for a celebration and a change of mood.

"It's okay. Why don't you finish walking into the house and we can talk about what's up later, hmm?" Adachi asked and pulled Kurosawas hand to lead him further into the house.

The olders jaw dropped when he saw and smelt the new aura of the room. Tears slipped- although this time they were of love and happiness.

"TaDa!" Adachi said while spinning in the middle of the living room and grabbing a box of chocolates from the coffee table. "Whatcha think? Thought i just laid around all day, Wrong!" he finished while running back to Kurosawa and placing a caramel melt into his mouth, closing his jaw after.

"This is, Beautiful Adachi" Kurosawa spoke while pulling his lover into an embrace. His sadness from hours ago no longer evitable in his mind. Just the pure extant of seeing how much love Adachi poured into this mini party for him being placed instead.

~ A Few Hours Earlier ~

"Hey Kuro, the award was supposed to be presented 5 minutes ago. When are you gonna let us start?" the head coordinator spoke to Kuro.

He sighed, "please just give me five more minutes. she'll be here soon, i promise".

Kurosawa was a bit upset at the fact that Adachi for not being able to witness this award being presented to him, but he of course knew that it wasn't his fault. He thought it'd be fine as long as she was here to witness his acceptance speech.

She being Kurosawas Mother.

Kurosawa grew up in a loving home up until his father passed away while Kuro himself was a teenager. The family that had always laughed and loved each other now was always silent and angry. The only family now being Kurosawa and his mother.

Although Kurosawas fathers passing was pure accident and no one could've prevented it, the fact that Kuro and his father shared the same face only made it tougher for his mother to let go of her husband. Seeing his face on her sons made her grow resentment towards her son due to not being able to see him without being reminded of her lost lover.

She had been absent from most of his biggest moments in life but had promised to be here today to support her son for his biggest moment yet. Or so that's what Kurosawa thought...

He had called 17 times, left 87 messages, and even asked an Uber to pick her up from her home. The calls and messages left unrecieved and the Uber driver now gone as there was no one to pick up at the house.

"She promised" thought Kurosawa.

How could a mother miss these moments in her only child's life. If he could change his face he would, but he couldn't, and he prayed for the day he stopped having to pay the price for it.

He was snapped out of his thoughts when the coordinator yelled to him, "we're starting now, with or without you" before turning back behind the curtain.

Kurosawa they he couldn't push it back further and went up to the stage. He looked his hardest through all the flashing cameras and loud chants-

she wasn't here.

Present Time:
The two had just finished their third glass of wine and we're currently laying in their bed. The silence was comfortable to Adachi but he still needed to know what went on with Kuro when he had first arrived.

Unlike usual, Kurosawa was the one laying on Adachis stomach with Adachis hand ruffling itself through his hair. He needed comfort, and this was the best way.

"She wasn't there" he broke the silence.

Adachi knew exactly who she was. Kurosawa had been anticipating her participation in the ceremony for the past week and just yesterday was bouncing off the walls at how exited he was for her to see him get all the benefits of working so hard for so long.

Kurosawa had been sad. crying in the car for 30 minutes even and only leaving it the moment he texted Adachi.

Kuro continued while Adachi kept rubbing his head. "But it's okay. Because the only person i thought of while giving my speech was you". He pulled himself up and kissed Adachis lips.

"And youre the only one i need" Adachi smiled to him and bent his neck to pepper Kurosawas face with kisses.

Now, feeling the warmth and love from his husband, he came to a realization.

Even if he didn't have his mothers love. Adachis was more than enough, and he would never take that for granted.
