"Please." My retired breastfeeder begs yet once again.
"I said no, dude." I walk into my room and she follows behind.
"Don't call me dude!" She takes a deep breath, raking a hand through her short hair. "You need to dress up, Aspen. Please. This is an important lunch."
I look down at my oversized t-shirt and shorts I was wearing underneath. "I am dressed up. Appreciate the hobo, lady."
"I'll buy you three boxes of Fruit-Roll-Ups if you put on a dress." She dismisses my words as her eyes gain this knowing glint.
Damn it.
I hate the fact that she still knows my weaknesses. I need to hold my ground. "Tempting, but I still am not changing."
"Six boxes."
Stay strong, woman. It's just candy.
Yeah, your favorite candy.
Wincing, I shake my head. "Nope. Not changing my mind. I'm going to go work on some—"
"I'll buy you 10 boxes and 3 additional boxes of your favorite variety pack of Gushers."
Diabetes, here I come my love.
"Sold!" I clap my hands, any last bit of resolve I had flying out my open window. "I'll be right out in a pretty dress and I expect my 13 boxes in my room after this lunch. Deal?"
She grins, looking a lot like how I do when I smile."You have yourself a deal."
She walks out and I dig around in the closet, looking for a dress to wear. I don't really own a lot of dresses or wear them because I'm built like Olaf and they're not flattering on me at all.
Finding a simple white mini dress with purple lilacs all over it, I quickly throw it over my body and then put on white sneakers. Looking into the mirror after I've combed my hair and put a pair of earrings in, I nod at my reflection. I grab my sunglasses and a handbag with my stuff in it before leaving my room and heading downstairs.
The Becketts were gathered in the living room, April wearing a matching cherry red crop top and mini skirt while dearest mother fixed up Levi's stupid tie.
What a baby. My dad could always do his own tie.
I was waiting against a wall when Melissa backed away from Levi, his tie set and a grin on her lips as she fixed up her own dress. Her eyes find me and she nods, looking me up and down before mouthing, "deal" again.
"Sunglasses?" Levi stares at me, a disapproving frown on his face. "You have to take them off—"
"Stop right there," I put my hand out to stop him. "Do not speak another word to me. I'm feeling classy today so I'm giving you a chance to shut the hell up and spare your own ego."
He looks frustrated but my smug smile doesn't leave my lips as he struggles to form words. Mmhm, that's what I thought.
