I'm trying to catch my breath as I pathetically try to finish up my two last laps.

"Move it, Wilson!" My darling gym teacher screams, blowing her whistle yet again.

I blow out a ragged breath and pick up my pace, internally praying that I'd make it through today alive. I don't understand why Mrs. Pottom likes to torture us so much. She says running is her favorite thing ever which is why makes us do it all the time.

It makes no sense but she says it's because she's trying to make sure our generation doesn't go to waste spending all our time on our phones.

I'm halfway through my lap around the gym when suddenly, the fire siren goes off. I come to a stop, hunching over as the loud sound rings through my ears and pounds through my temples.

"Students of Crescent High, good evening! This is your principal, Mr. Albertson, speaking. As you know, it is mandatory that we practice emergency drills all throughout the district of Edenburg County twice a semester. This week we'll be running through all of them and we are starting off with a fire drill. Teachers, if you would please lead your students outside now, that'd be great. Thank you."

The intercom then goes silent. The kids who were running with me and struggling start cheering, some dropping to the ground. I would probably be the same way if every muscle in my body wasn't burning right now.

"Fuck, yeah! I love drills!" Another student whoops, running in a circle and doing a small dance.

"Ethan, language!" Mrs. Pottom screams, a laugh bubbling up my throat at her irritated expression. "Everyone, outside! We're going through the doors at the end of the art hallway. Move it!"

I straighten my back, sighing tiredly as I followed the rest of my classmates out the gymnasium and then out the doors.

I shiver instantly once we get outside. We're getting closer and closer to winter and we actually saw some snowflakes fall two days ago. It was a thin layer of snow that melted the next day, but it was exciting to see nonetheless. I can't wait until winter actually comes around. I love winter.

"Stay here, children. I'm going to talk to Mr. Fields real quick." Mrs. Pottom takes her time giving each of us pointed looks before she turns on her heel and moves away.

I pick at my shorts while glancing around at the other classes surrounding us. There were still groups of students exiting the building and I was trying my best to look for my boyfriend.

It takes a while but I spot him a few minutes later, being the last one in his class to walk out the doors besides Mr. Cale, his AP Government teacher. They're talking from what I can see and it's a pretty short conversation before Mr. Cale pats him on the back and walks ahead to yell at some kid.

Saint then looks around, his eyebrows furrowed deeply as he did. I smile as I know that he's looking for me. With a skipping heart, I move to the right a bit and step onto the grass, where he could see me better if he looked in this direction.

I wait for him to find me and when he does, his eyebrows relax and a small smile graces his face. I grin back and wave and he does the same before walking ahead with his class to their spot.
